Now take them out of the soapy water and put them in the drying rack. No, no, dont rinse them; just put them in the rack. Yes, like that, with soap bubbles all over them. Apparently your mother was wrongyou can eat off dishes that have not been thoroughly rinsed and not get sick. In time, youll get used to the idea.

It was basically the sharp/extra sharp distinction for cheddar. Not sure what the cheesecake suggestion was about, because there's definitely nothing sharp in there.

Alright real talk for a second. My S.O. washes the dishes in a typically british way and it drives me up the fucking wall and I'm just summoning up the courage to confront her about it.

Basically she fills the sink with like, 5 gallons of hot water and soap and lets it "soak" for a while. Then she dunks dishes in, gives them a wipe with a sponge and just...throws them on the fucking rack. She doesn't rinse it.

Naturally this lazy fucking approach to washing dishes doesn't wash them very well, I end up having to redo half the dishes. Not to mention the colossal waste of hot water.

My least favourite thing about this is that she leaves the sponge in the water so it just sits there for hours. No fucking wonder we have to get new sponges all the time!

She's a fastidiously clean person so I have no idea where she learned this fucking awful method of cleaning dishes. Something we need to address.

That was my guess but the part that's throwing me... Who the **** uses CHEDDAR in a cheese cake? It's supposed to be cream cheese.
They were separate occasions with 'tastiness' being measured. The cheddar thing was in the grocery store and was just a terrible way of wording 'sharp/extra sharp'.

The cheesecake thing was about a typical cheesecake recipe, but with an alteration of lemon juice amounts and a few other tweaks to make it 'taste' less and I have no idea what she thought the benefit was.

I generally see it worded as "strong/mature" instead of sharp here.

Ahhh, okay. I was confused.

It's too late to confront the SO, better learn to live with it! I tell my SO all the time to stop leaving things in the sink as it blocks me from washing up something I need quickly, or pouring something gross away (with all the baking I'm doing I need quick access sometimes) - this has lead to me washing up anytime I walk past the sink and see something it.

Frankly I don't really mind as she's very clean and washes up after meals and I only ever have to wash 1 or 2 things she's left in there so it takes 30 seconds.

It's not a big deal really but yes I think I will address it

Whitley posted...
What's the best method for washing dishes?

Fill a saucepan with hot water and soap. Don't put any dishes or cutlery in it, don't load up the sink so you can't use it. This is now your clean hoy soapy water resource. Wash dishes one at a time in the sink, rinse off.

When you have something that "needs to soak", don't do that. If letting it sit with some soap suds on it for a minute doesn't do the trick, then stick it on the stove with some water and baking powder and let it boil for 5-10 minutes, everything should wipe away neatly.

In restaurants they have a 3 step process involving a bleach and sanitise step but it's not really important at home.

It really is not at all. You will use about a tenth of the water and dish soap at a greater concentration, without ending up cleaning your dishes with dirty greasy water by the end.
