Saying that it's a "betrayal" or would be a "death knell [for the party]", or worried it'll mess up the timing on their court packing. Basically everyone in Senate leadership is opposed to it. It would have to be passed by mostly Democratic votes and "concerned" Republicans like Collins, etc. ...if McConnell would even bring it to the floor which is kinda an lol proposition at this point. And that's if they took the Trump Administration proposal as is... let alone any compromise with the House.

I would prefer she get more out of him, particularly for unemployment, but honestly at this point I agree and they should all just take the shared W and get something out ASAP.

Like you said if Trump wins were going to get absolutely nothing for anyone and it isnt worth the risk. And if he loses were waiting until January at absolute best because no chance they care enough to get it done without the threat of election looming over their heads.

I mean, the real problem is that IIRC there's no discharge petition-like procedure in the Senate. There surely is 50+ votes (hell maybe even 60 to beat a filibuster) to pass COVID relief. But so long as McConnell is determined to keep it from the floor I'm not sure anything can be done.

It's different from voting it down because there simply won't be a vote at all.So the votes may indeed "be there" but it doesn't matter so long as no vote is ever called.

I'm pretty sure it's not entirely foolproof because IIRC Schumer somehow managed to pull one over on him the other day by forcing some kind of vote on withdrawing funding/support for the legal challenge to the ACA about a week ago but I'd have to double-check how he managed that one - though my understanding was that it was more that he caught McConnell asleep at the wheel and that if the GOP had been paying closer attention he could have blocked it and not that there was some heretofore unknown mechanism to force a vote on a matter (after all, if there were such a thing it would surely have been deployed to force a vote (or even hearings) on Garland.)

It's bad for them in the short-term, but long-term it probably works out OK for them. No agreement makes the economy even worse during the Biden administration, which they can use against the Democrats in 2022/2024. Besides, passing relief now won't help them much at this point because it's too late for it to get to voters before the election anyway.
