I've seen maybe 1 minute of gameplay in my life.

How does it compare to other MGS?

Can't it be both?

It's easily the worst of 1-4, but the soundtrack stuff is super cool and I like the adaptive camo too.

its a total mess of a game and the worst in the series. Whenever you see gameplay for it you generally see gameplay from the first 5 hours or so because those parts are actually kinda fun and serve as sort of an urban evolution of MGS3's gameplay. More open-ended areas, lots of nooks and crannies, and a heavy lean on encouraging youm to be creative.

Once you get out of that part, it gets dramatically worse.and the gameplay begins to become more in service to the incredibly shitty story. One chunk of the game is nothing but an incredibly long tailing mission that would make any Assassin's Creed game blush. Another is an overlong nostalgia-fueled walking simulator where you deal with either nothing to sneak around or the most annoying enemies in the game for long stretches. By the end, you're fiiiinally able to resume the sneaking gameplay of the beginning, but not for nearly long enough and not in anywhere near as fun a setting.

What you have left is the story, and there's a -lot- of it. It's also by far the worst thing Kojima ever wrote. Say what you want about MGSV's overall lack of plot compared to the rest of the series, MGS4 is Kojima attempting to tie every loose plot thread in the series up until that point together and it turns into an absolute car crash. Like, sub-fanfiction explanations for things which open up more plot holes than they close.

As a game it's decent. But you barely play the damn thing. Later chapters have almost no mgs gameplay

its a p solid game, and if youre caught up on the mgs lore, the cutscenes both explain and end some of it. its worth playing to appreciate the game for both aspects. if you can do that, its an excellent experience.

Its amazing, but the lenghty cutscenes can be a problem if youre not into that.

While it is more story than gameplay, the gameplay that is there is excellent. There's a lot of fun to be had there.

Gameplay is solid. Also the story ties up every little thing so if you didn't care about the plot in 1-3 you may not get the full epic feeling that MGS4 delivers.

I generally consider anything to do with Skull Face as none canon as great as the gameplay in 5 is.

Not sure if that's good or bad, if you hated the story or the long-winded explanations then you will undoubtedly hate this game. If you got invested in the characters over the years then you will get alot out of it. It's the final chapter of the entire saga of the series so I mean >_>

When that game was coming out the amount of mystery surrounding the game and the HYPE leading to it's release was almost unparalleled imo. The MGS4 boards were flowing and flowing with topics and whole synopsis' and theories about what certain elements of the trailer meant. People were dissecting the fuck out of the only data we had at the time. I was posting wall-o-texts and so were others regarding the story, the lore, and what the future held as far as the series went.

I agree though, after the first two Acts there's not as much hiding around or sneaking through sans the trailing mission.. but it was cool to see Old Snake taking on a sort of 'normal' espionage mission. You also gotta figure how shocked everyone was to see an old, battered Snake - our hero, look that way all of a sudden in the trailer.

Everyone was like 'wut in the actual facaca'

It's a long game and the end of it is basically cutscenes.. but man was it great for a person so invested in the series

I loved the gameplay of MGSV and how bare it was with cutscenes, but I wish it had the levels of MGS4.. also MGSV needed more story imo.

2>3>4>1>PO>V>AC!D2>PW>MG's

Also, we're never going to get another character named Snake - people are too self-aware to enjoy that freely so for me I treasure it even more

At the time I was like 'haha Snake again but with trading cards' >_>

Lol well I mean, I still dont understand why they didnt reference Gene or Python in later entries.. especially Python since he was an ol comrade of Snake in PO so I mean he wouldve been a cool character for MGSV

Eh, supposedly he had some input - but thats totally true.. I think they did a stellar job for a PSP game. I even enjoyed it more so than PW tbh and that was full on canon

Pretty much set up the foundation for recruiting soldiers for MGSV. Just wish MGSV had more enclosed areas ala PO/MGS2/MGS3 Gronzyj Grad

Peace Walker set the foundation for the recruiting thing more than PO imo.
