ps2/gen 6 is still by far the best era of gaming, before the advent of mainstream online/dlc crap.

I can't believe ps5 is out already. Insane when these consoles are barely showing any improvement, but rather removal of features. Heck it seems the focus is always graphics, never things like gameplay and improved physics

The Dreamcast

Edit: My bad, this is just for the PS...if so then PS1 - 2, as imo the PS1 was underpowered...it just happened to hope on the 3D bandwagon at the right time.

Only significant leap for consoles was SNES to PS1

PS2 was unimpressive and PS3 was an utter joke compared to PCs

Fair, but the faster-loading stuff they're promoting will actually improve gameplay so there's that. I'm really hoping developers will actually take advantage of those. The forced walking segments and slow movements through crevices became popular because they were loading tricks, so hopefully those will be all but gone now.

it's sort of always been that way, though. As far back as the 16 bit era graphics were a major selling point, especially if they could come close to what arcades were pumping out at the time.

Gameplay features sometimes get touted, but it's almost always "graphics" related like FMVs, or whatever they can show "a lot of", like number of enemies on screen, or draw distance. Which sort of makes sense from a marketing standpoint. You use whatever's going to look good in a trailer to hook the casuals, since nerds are going to be keeping themselves up to date with all the devs anyway. >_>
