Current Events > Just made my second off duty arrest ever

Coming back from the gym, wife texts me the dogs are going nuts bring them in. Then she calls me a second later, that she stepped out front to see why theyre barking. Some Hispanic guy is on our front yard approaching our front door. yelling fuck you bitch and she runs inside and locks
herself in.

i get home, gun and handcuff I keep in my glove compartment in hand, hes in my front yard bushes hiding. He runs. I run after him, take my badge out, and identify myself as police. and hold him at gunpoint until Units arrive.

wtf is wrong with people. He was high out of his mind apparently. Neighbors came out and said he was in their backyards just before

You said you held him at gunpoint until the police arrived, when you had cuffs. Also, off duty cops aren't supposed to be carrying without a permit to carry. You should've called 911 and let them handle this trespassing. I kinda hope your conceal and carry is revoked now by this egregious, and unconstitutional act.

Trespass is what? A fine and maybe, maybe an acd? You hold people up for attempted shop lifting too? If he was doing anymore you failed to speak it. Also, I don't care what he was yelling. Thats his first amendment right to speech.

ok. I need to breakdown this extremely stupid and uninformed post.

1. Police officers get an off duty authorization with their licensing to carry in all 50 states. I can any gun anywhere.
2. If my wife is home alone, she steps outside, and a man in the dark is walking towards her screaming at her. Its a pretty serious call for alarm. It only stopped at trespassing because I stopped him where he was

Even if the gun did turn out to be overkill because he was unarmed, that's your house he's outside of and you'd probably know better than most of us just how much harder it can be to take down somebody on certain drugs. Those ones where even breaking their bones and using a taser won't stop them. Not wanting to take that risk is totally reasonable in this case.

i would be 100 percent justified to shoot a man advancing towards my front door threatening my wife, in pitch black, where I have no idea if hes armed or not. Who was later determined to be a subject high on drugs. I did the responsible thing, I protected my wife and my house, I stood in one spot, I made sure to back away and keep my distance and told him to leave. Once he heard cops coming, he started running away from my property, I holstered up and let the police do their work.

Im sure most people see someone on their property in the middle of the night would do something

if my wife calls me crying that someone advanced towards her screaming obscenities that she had to run in and lock the door. That threatens the personal safety of my wife. I had just happened to be pulling into the neighborhood when she called. Who knows what he couldve done?
