Let's leave the whole it's a terrible dating spot thing aside. It's an overpriced piece of shit medium that delays receiving these movies via far superior formats under much more comfortable and cheaper circumstances.

Good riddance

Your iphone is not a superior format to a large screen and a good sound system.

The movie theater is awesome, you just gotta go to a mid-week matinee and sneak your own drink/snacks in.

Lol iPhone. Aside from that, why would you even assume I'm talking about watching movies on a fucking phone?

Also are phones actually inferior to a movie viewing experience? You can lie down on your couch and watch movies without being restricted by filthy seats and overpriced snacks without having to deal with other people's crying babies or loud munching. You don't have to deal with people in front covering a part of the screen either. I'm like 6 feet and I still have a problem with people's hair obscuring the screen.

The sound systems in movie theaters are pretty overrated too. I don't want loud ass explosion sounds blowing up my ears and making me jump.

I won't miss other people but I will miss the large screens and audio systems

The movie theater I go to has a 21+ balcony area up high so you can barely hear the shitty kids down below, but yeah if you're talking a standard theater then I don't miss those

Cuz of work, I can pretty much never find a timeslot without anybody there, especially on a movie that I'd actually want to see. Sneaking in your own snacks is nice, but it's nothing compared to just watching at your home tv and being able to drink and eat whatever you want depending on the situation rather being locked to whatever you were able to fit in your partner's purse or something

Yes, the movie theater experience with those caveats is absolutely superior to sitting on your couch with your hand in your pants.

But of course, those caveats are entirely exaggerations that you can almost universally avoid by exercising a tiny fraction of your brain cells when selecting your movie viewing time.

That's your opinion. No one is forcing you to go to theaters, so it's pretty selfish of you to want them to go away. Expensive blockbusters wouldn't get made without them

Those movies will never come to whatever you see as a superior medium because they will never get made without theaters. They need to make money somehow and streaming is not it

Well I think there's far more to it than just movie theaters overpricing their mediocre experience so movies have excessive funds and returns. Movies as a whole for many many genres are being phased out over TV shows on one of the many streaming platforms. A lot of tv series got a huge boost off of being streamable. If it weren't profitable somehow as you seem to be implying, doesn't make sense how big companies like Amazon and Disney are dumping loads of moneys to make their service work. Netflix also seems to have infinite funding to the shows they buy, and these shows end up making a ton of money.

Maybe there's still a place for blockbusters, but the last like 4-5 years, it's been mostly Marvel anyways. Only very specific genres thrived in the movies for the last decade or so. It was long overdue for a change
