When the company in general or your store specifically massively marks something down in order to clear it out are you allowed to just take it to buy it later or does it have to be left out for customers to grab first?

I was having a discussion with people on another forum and employees grabbing clearance product came up and it got me curious.

AFAIK you're not allowed to. But people absolutely do it anyway.

Not even marked down things either. I work in produce, and if we get in like, for example, a box of mangoes or avocados and there's some really nice gigantic ones, we'll grab a few of the best ones and stash them in the back so we can buy them when we get off work.

Employees always get first pick of anything. One of the few perks when I worked retail

See that's what it was like at one of my old retail jobs (we even had a special holds area for employees), but I knew there was no way a company like Walmart would "allow" it.

I worked at Macys and we weren't allowed to. It had to be put on the floor and purchased on our own time. If a customer beat you to it then oh well...But management was shady. Like, people had been fired for saving things for themselves, meanwhile, if you walked into the store managers office it was always full of stuff she picked out waiting for the sale day.

We aren't allowed to do it.... but there are ways around that. Dammit, I say we, but I just quit Wal-Mart 2 days ago for full time studies. They really don't like you buying food or drinks during your shift. One manager flipped out at me for buying something on my break, and leaving it in the automatic cart pusher(because we didn't get a chance to go to the back during our breaks. Not enough time) as I constantly needed something to give me energy. Same manager flipped out at me for bringing in coffee on Black Friday, but I digress.

It really depends on if you can be sneaky enough, and if your good friends with the people of the department.

The one rule though is that no matter what, sales floor items could not enter the back area, even if you were buying them.
