The problem here is that they also dropped really low on the key demo not even top 10 at all. While it is a different sport NBA competed against Raw and it still did fairly well. AEW should have pulled a SmackDown and come out on another channel or do what NXT did and AEW did the same earlier and changed days.

AEW only ever changed days because TNT was airing NBA playoff basketball on Wednesdays those weeks.
