Now it's frequently having problems where it won't connect at all for no reason, or even stay connected. Before it was just shitty speed, but now it's outright disconnecting and unable to keep a connection.

Ah, i'm not a linux guy sorry.I have Windows 7. _ And I have to use my iPhone's data right now through my PC in order to access the internet. I really should just get a long-ass ethernet cable, but a part of me doesn't want to because I already had one before that was like, 50 feet long, but sadly, I don't have it anymore. Holy shit, apparently 50 foot long ethernet cables can be as cheap as $5.
