Star Wars
How? I know it was based on old film serials from like WWII. But how Vietnam?

Anyway, most 80s shows had some Vietnam connection. Magnum PI for example. Magnum was a Vietnam vet and had frequent call backs to the war.

In Vietnam there was no clear "bad guy" unlike WWII, it was the gray war. Much like how Star Wars is very morally ambiguous, and either side can be looked at as the "good guy".

I don't think either Star Wars or Vietnam were ambiguous about who the bad guy is. In both it's the imperial bastards.

Wasn't North Vietnam the invaders and the Rebels supported anarchy, lawlessness and civil war?

Where the US was just support and the Empire enforced law and order?
