Most of the 'problems' come from Microsoft bloatware, with Games for Windows Live becoming Marketplace or something like that. Fallout 3 by default looks for that. Otherwise you just tweak an .ini file to allow threading with 2 threads and you're set. Also, on a potentially related note: this is the era of Bethesda games where you want to disable ALL auto-saves. It's generally recommended to save to a new slot with every manual save; you can erase old saves easily enough after the fact. This is because the save files bloat, especially with the auto-save and this eventually causes corruption for the game file.
