1.) Clefable was caught with Unaware, its hidden ability, which cannot be changed to Magic Guard, the preferred ability.

2.) Aron was caught in the wild (raid), meaning it cannot learn Head Smash, an egg move. Prime since Aggron has Rock Head.

At least my Beheeyem is an underrated powerhouse, especially with Analytic.

Didnt the DLC introduce a HA item?

Ability Capsules are definitely one of the better ideas from the fan-made Pokemon games.

"The Crown Tundra contains a new item that will allow you to change a Pokmon's ability to its Hidden Ability, The Pokmon Company confirmed today in its latest livestream. The Ability Patch item will allow trainers to sort of unlock a Hidden Ability by changing the Pokmon's regular ability."

I think I looked this up already; you can change from regular ability to hidden ability, but not hidden to regular.

Would be thrilled to find out I'm wrong though, it's possible I was looking at outdated information.

Yeah but the Ability Patch only allows you to go from non HA -> HA, and not HA -> non HA

I have a similar problem where I have a shiny Beldum with its crappy HA Light Metal instead of the non HA Clear Body. My fault though because I was just breeding for 6IV mules to use later since you can breed all abilities from a HA pokemon, and then a 5IV shiny Beldum with the wrong ability popped out.

No, you still can. Just get another Aron that knows Head Smash; gender doesn't matter. Make sure the one you want to teach it to has an empty move slot, and put them both in the Nursery. It will then teach Head Smash to the other one.

No you are right, and I was mistaken, I thought it worked both ways. After looking into it, you can't change the hidden ability to a normal one, that sucks.

I think he meant that the other Aron will teach the shiny Aron Head Smash over time if both are left in the day care. I heard of this shortly after release date but I don't have the 8th gen games so I don't know if it's true or not.

You can teach egg moves to Pokemon that are already born, yes. I believe shininess is the only thing you can't change about a Pokemon at this point.

Post #9 already said how, but: https://www.serebii.net/swordshield/breedingmechanics.shtml

There is a new mechanic in Sword & Shield, however. In these games you don't just pass moves onto the baby Pokmon but can in fact pass them on to the other parent. If both Pokmon are of the exact same species (evolutions do not count) and are in the day care centre, and if one of the parents has an egg move, it can be passed. To do this, just put both Pokmon in the Day Care and make sure the Pokmon you desire to learn the move has got an empty move slot for each move you want to pass. After a short amount of time, the Pokmon will pass that egg move across to the other Pokmon
The Pokmon passing these egg moves can even be the same gender or genderless for the moves to pass.

Super minor thing, but the parent that learns the egg move that way won't have it tied to itself genetically or whatever. So if you plan on breeding more Arons down the line from your shiny, just know that if you breed it with a rando Ditto it won't pass down its "egg moves"

Similar to how hypertrained IV values won't pass down to offspring

As of this point the only thing you cannot change about a pokemon you've already caught are
The pokeball it's in
The gender it is
The fact that it's shiny or not.
IVs also cannot be reduced so people who want Trick Room teams and require certain pokemon with a 0 in IVs are still gonna have to do it the old fashioned way.

Did we land on also "changing an existing pokemon's hidden ability back to one of its regular abilities"

I did try the ability patch (the one that lets you go from regular to hidden) on my clefable, but it says it won't have any effect.

I'm still holding out for this one.

My concept is that as long as you have a spare of the Ball you want to use, you can switch Pokemon into that one. However, the old Ball is destroyed in the process. Cherish Ball Pokemon (and hacked Cherish Balls) cannot be used in this.

Lol.

I think the main reason you can't get rid of Hidden Abilities is because of the pokemon from the VC games. They don't want to let people have No Guard Machamp with Fissure (even though you'd have to erase the move to make it battle ready anyway).

Can't they make it so No Guard doesn't work for specific moves (basically OHKOs) and make it possible for Pokemon to switch between their hidden abilities and their non hidden abilities?

Such an easy solution lol

Easiest solution is to just allow it. It can't be used in ranked anyway. And it's still plenty easy to counter
