the last one was kinda eh to me. It seemed perfectly serviceable, but it just didn't hook me at all. so not really any feelings toward this new one.

Extremely so! Reviews seem to be about what I expected: it's really neat mechanically but less great in terms of overall story. But I'm here for mechanical nonsense.
