Am I a bad person?


I was walking down the street earlier today and it was raining really heavily. Id just finished talking on the phone and an old homeless man came up to me and asked if I spoke English. For some reason I immediately assumed that he was on drugs and I got scared. Its weird because Ive been around a lot of homeless people and crackheads but I never really felt scared before. Anyway, he said that today was his birthday and hed appreciate it if I could give him some money for food. I grabbed 5 bucks out of my wallet and gave it to him and he said thanks and walked away. In hindsight he wasnt even acting erratically or anything. I was just caught of guard because he appeared behind me seemingly out of nowhere. I felt like shit afterwards because I only gave him money because I was scared of what might happen if I tried to ignore him. So based on this story am I an asshole or not?

I'd think you were an asshole if you started cussing him out or harassing him or something, but handing him money even if you only did it out of a misplaced sense of fear is not being an asshole.
