I'm a massive supporter of the federal government and even I don't think the federal government should be the one running its own elections --- The name is wackyteen for a reason. The key point for Trump would(will?) be getting the Supreme Court to disqualify enough ballots for him to credibly declare victory(and for voting on election day to be in his favor). There's really no mechanism for forcing a president out, and every step of the process is handled by partisan actors. If Trump doesn't try out, some other Republican undoubtedly will.
