Definitive edition has that same braindead open world that 3 had. Games were trending in the right direction at one point. No immersion. What happened besides greed? There isn't much to do in mafia 2 but what was there was good. They actually managed to ruin mafia 1 too. Don't believe the hype.

I'm on 3 now and I liked 1 a lot more than 2. 2 was better than I thought it would be though. And 3 is fucking awesome, I have no idea why people didn't like it when it came out

Mafia 2 did a good job making the open world a factor but not the star. Id rather an open world have nothing extra, rather than little nothings as a distraction. And Mafia 3 had a whole lot of nothing distractions. The story starts off so damn strong, then it makes you work for the rest. I quit that job.

I agree 1 was the best but they ruined it. 2 was still good though just needed more quality. But what was there was nice. They ruin everything ultimately it seems. You can't find certain kinds of games anymore. And the series really never reached its peak. Innovation and immersion in general. It's not just mafia.

I would also like to add that Mafia 2's DLC is unmitigated trash. After being disappointed by whatever the fuck those Jimmy episodes were I thought that at least Joe's Adventures or whatever would keep me interested by filling in story gaps, but the mission design is so poor that I just gave up on it.

Most people just quit playing and don't notice these things in gaming in general. I agree at the time Mafia 2 was crap compared to the 1st one. But I can still respect it and the base game. What they are doing in the open world is still better than most open world games now.

I honestly don't know what you're referring to because all Mafia 2's open world had was 2 places to sell cars and 2 people who felt like they should be giving you side missions but didn't. Oh and 2 clothing stores with very limited options. It did absolutely nothing special as far as open worlds go

Honestly the only thing I even found notable about Mafia 2's world was the fact that it had both a winter version and a summer version for different parts of the story

There isn't much to do but the police AI and shops themselves. The open world also flowed with the main story. It made me want to explore even though there wasn't much there. I'm not saying it was great or anything. All the music is ripped off and not theirs. They could do so much more in general. I just found it more fun than some other games that get a lot of hype. Even though it was very basic.

It's the immersion and it wasn't great. But compared to mafia 3 and mafia 1 remake the immersion is still there somewhat. It was even more so in the first game.

3 is good stuff. The actual story missions and acting are awesome as hell. It feels like how a Punisher game would be if one was made today.

I guess you're seeing things in it that I didn't. Nothing wrong with personal preference. For me, I'm finding 3's world to be the most immersive of the three games by a long shot. IMO Mafia 2's story is its main strength, and the last thing Leo says to you in that game literally sent chills down my spine

There are little things in the actual game design that make a difference is all. They are actually designing game mechanics here and there vs just an open world and cut scenes. The way the game flows in general.

I'm not saying it's a bad game by any means, I definitely enjoyed it and plan to play it again at some point, but I think it's the weakest out of the trilogy gameplay-wise and the world really isn't anything special. 1 and 2 have a similar structure in regards to open world and cutscenes

Mafia II's story is very impressive that I wanted to keep playing in order to find out what happened.

I'm surprised no one has wanted to make a movie out of it. Yeah, it's like Goodfellas and all those mafia movies, but it's still entertaining and drunk Joe is awesome.

Mafia 3 drives me nuts with the repetition in the gameplay and the world feels dead. The main story was good but it's mostly cutscenes and a few set pieces. I think in general 2k lost their quality control. And just game designers in general. They made the game bigger and hired a writer 3 feels like. The original developers were better at design.

I really liked the whole passage of time aspect in 2. It didn't just feel like an endless summer, it legit felt like I played through years of Vito's life
