He kind of did in one episode.

He literally took control of the whole ship as everyone else on board tried (and failed) to stop him.

However, he would not be able to maintain the ship over time on a daily basis by himself, simply because there are too many physical maintenances he doesn't have the manpower to do by himself, considering how often the ship is damaged during all their missions.

Picard and Riker together flew the Enterprise back to Starbase 74 after it was hijacked by the Bynars, though it was mostly just Picard operating the conn, Riker went back to screw around on the holodeck.

Dr Crusher operated the Enterprise (or tried to, anyway) in the episode where she got stuck in a collapsing warp bubble. She ordered the computer to fly the empty ship to Tau Alpha C, home of the Traveller, but by that point the universe had shrunk to only 700 meters in diameter.

Lt Broccoli took over the Enterprise using a neural scan interface on the holodeck after having his brain reprogrammed by a Cytherian probe.

Poor Reg..

But yeah Data is by far the most powerful being on the ship in many ways and did take over the ship to fly back to meet his "dad" Soong in the S3 episode 'Brothers'. They should've done more "Data runs amok" episodes though another good one was when he, Troi, and O'Brien got taken over by those non-corporeal beings in ten forward.

I am the biggest Trek geek I know so it's nice to see any TNG posts on PotD, especially from their golden era of S3-6.

That's the era I grew up with, in some part thanks to to my dad and uncle who loved the franchise. It wasn't until several years later that I finally saw what would be my favorite episode(s), which was the series finale.

Yeah the last season was mostly a dud but the finale, Pegasus, Preemptive Strike, and Paralels were good ones.

DS9 is my overall favorite but the golden TNG era is really tough to beat.

Several of the characters were calling Lt Reginald Barclay "Broccoli" behind his back. Picard told them to stop it, then he accidentally calls him "Broccoli" to his face.

I like that TNG worked with Barclay through the issues they were having, rather than just transferring him to another ship out of a severe lack of compassion or leadership. *Glares at Discovery*

Better than Data hijacking the ship. Reginald Barclay became the ship in one episode.

For context, Barclay is an extremely talented engineer which is how he got a job on the flagship, but was shunned by the crew due to his extreme social anxiety, to the point they made fun of him by calling him broccoli, and tried to get him transferred to a different ship. However, the captain said transferring him to a different ship despite his skill would be a waste of his talents since he would just endless get transferred from ship to ship, and ordered the crew to try befriend him and get over his social anxiety rather than just trying to get rid of him for being different and annoying, which saved them in the end due to his talents.

When in new Star Trek...
