I enjoyed it for PC. Then they patched it to supposedly fix some crashing issues. Half of the group I played with lost the ability to complete a level because the game would inevitably crash(With no rejoin feature) with this supposedly crash fixing patch.

I think console users faced a similar dilemma but with disconnect issues.

It was an okay game but it was really not ready to be released in the state it was. It could be a good game if it survives another 2 or 3 years worth of updates but the release version was pitiful.

Honestly good, people were absolutely not sold on it and properly responded with their wallets. Hopefully Square will learn from this and stop half assing their games.

I think they took too long to release it, if it came out relatively soon after endgame when the hype was still alive it would've been massive even if it was awful, but the hype has died down a lot

I was interested until I heard it was mostly a multiplayer game, then I decided not to buy. That's not what I wanted out of it, and the fact it was a GaaS game compounded it further.

Honestly, the single player portion was a lot of fun and the multiplayer was an underwhelming mess where every boss is Taskmaster.

I've heard from a ton of people I trust that the campaign is great and worth a look but all the tacked on GaaS elements drag it down.

It's a shame, too, because if they'd just focused on a solid single player campaign I bet it would have done just fine.

Pretty dumb to release an enormous budget full price live service game right now in the first place with all the competition. This was destined to be Anthem 2. Biggest nail in the coffin is it's a live service game where your gear doesn't effect how your character looks which is the #1 biggest draw to progressing in live service games.

With this and Battlefront 2, it's clear that Disney needs to get over this absurd obsession they have with not letting their characters go too "off brand" in the gaming space.

Also the game runs like shit....so yeah.

Games like avengers wont work in the streaming era. They are popular for a weekend and then die. FF7 remake only worked because it was one of the most hyped games of all time. Avengers had the avengers brand (something that might decline a tad tbh with the infinity saga over), but does that really translate to gaming? So far the only marvel stuff that sells anymore is the fucking movies, the comics are dying and the cartoons seem decent but i mean are made for kids...which demographically is smaller these days too

I went so far back and forth on this game. I preordered, then cancelled when I played the beta, then re-preordered when I heard the campaign was fully fleshed out and then played about halfway and I don't have much enthusiasm to go back and finish it. Maybe I'll go back and finish it when they add Spider-Man or Hawkeye.

I disagree with the rest of your post, honestly. It has nothing to do with the metrics you're mentioning and everything to do with the fact that, as more information dripped out about the game, the less interested people got from the initial announcement. It was really easy to watch the interest in the game to cool from hot to tepid rather quickly.

Metal DK is both right and wrong. Games like Avengers do worse in the streaming era, but it's mostly because we have better quality control these days. We have so many different options for games to play that the main way a mediocre game, which Avengers is, gets popular is by being streambait, which Avengers is not.

I felt the same. When I heard there were only a few villains in the game, I got super bummed out. And I'm a gigantic comic book fan and usually get all of these games.

I'd even like the GAAS multiplayer romp it was if there was variety to it. But I just don't understand what they were thinking with this. It's just released way too early.

I can't even be terribly mad at Squeenix for it because Marvel has a history of being very pushy about when their games come out and very particular about them as well, and it's clear they probably got impatient and wanted something sooner than later.

And the thing is, I included villains on that list that, while they appeared, they had a significant enough of a thing in the story. Zsasz exists in Arkham Asylum for a sneak tutorial and a batarang tutorial, but they gave him enough to make him significant.

But they put in the effort to make him interesting and matter. You had a GAAS grindfest and you can't even bother to add more unique villains to at least pad the missions you need to repeat ad nauseum? Even adding like twice that number would make the grind more bearable!

The lack of actual villains really shows that the developers just did not understand the IP that they had. Maybe this is Marvel having strict control, but also maybe this is, as people have said Crystal Dynamics trying to make Anthem with Marvel skins.

Licensed games really only work with a healthy balance of fanservice and faithfulness to the source material (see Arkham and Spiderman PS4 for the most successful examples). This game didn't quite understand whether it wanted to be MCU marvel or some weird 616/movie hybrid.
