They're just digging their heels in, it actually comes across as insecure to me that they can't just take the criticism and move on, they have to get indignant about it and double down on it with formulaic metacommentary. I do realize we're 20+ years into a series where the creators already kind of expressed growing bored of it tho. Randy was a way better character when he just started becoming more popular. But he should of never became the lead. You switch out 4 characters for 1.
