There was definitely a lot of blatantly cut content from that ending.

This.

I lost interest pretty fast once they went into Hueco Mundo.

Yea it started to get really muddy around the end of the Aizen arc. As soon as the next arc started and all these enemies came out of nowhere I started to lose interest heavily.

It's obvious the series wasnt meant to last much further past the soul society arc. With there being no main overarching story. And the MC and humans roster having no personal connection to ANYTHING from the story, characters and events happening around them. But yet somehow still ends up a central figure in it all.

This also forced the writer to continue creating mcguffins just to force the humans involvement into soul society's business. And I say their busineses becuase every story involves a enemy or organization from their past they screwed over and antagonized to some extent. That Ichigo always finds himself in the middle of to fix.

I just wanted to find out what was up with the Soul King. Then he was revealed, and I still have no fucking clue who or what he is.

I got towards the end and now I just can't care any more.

Kubo Tite was just trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible, the whole last arc felt rushed. Bleach as a whole dropped in quality after, most people say the Soul Society Arc, I'd say right after the Arrancar/Vizard arc and even then you could see the art quality and plot start to take a dip.

If it helps, Kubo only rushed the ending because of his health getting bad and the muscles/tendons in his shoulders tearing from drawing. Not that he got bored or wanted to rush it.

They explain him in the novels that came out after the manga ended. I could fill you in if you wanted.

Damn. I never knew this. That sucks because his art is amazing.

Yeah, looking back through some interviews, looked like his health started to take a real hit after the 10 year mark of drawing -- so around the Fullbringer stuff. After that, he lost some flexibility and was was more concerned in managing his health for the rest of the series. And after he ended it, he finally went to get an MRI done and they told him his shoulder tendons had been severed for a while.

(Plus, he already suffered from anxiety, iirc, and had to be hospitalized a couple time during serialization from having serious anxiety attacks. Sometimes over worrying about low ratings during certain arcs.)

I think part of the issue is that most mangaka have a team of assistants (to help with stuff like backgrounds and frivolous details like inking and shading) but Kubo always preferred to work alone and did everything himself, so he was taking on more work than a typical mangaka would. Which is bad since being a mangaka leads to poor health for most people in the career anyway, since they're working nonstop every day for years to pump out chapters every week.

Yeah, it was a rushed mess. Id hope the anime would flesh things out, but there are those sequel novels already so they might not want to change established canon.

i liked that the final battle was ichigo and orihime vs the final bad guy
even though she is taken out of the fight pretty quickly
its just that orihime and chad got shafted pretty hard over the series and ill take any nugget of screen time she could get

That Turn Back the Pendulum arc was still pretty good.

About Kubo, though: didn't Shonen Jump sort of force him to wrap up the manga on pretty short notice? I think I remember that from back when the ending was published.

Damn man this is depressing as fuck. Do mangaka at least get compensated well? Bleach was huge at one point, on par with Naruto and One Piece as "the big 3" IIRC. I'd hope that all his work wasn't for peanuts.

I have a Shonen Jump subscription but hearing this makes me want to go out and buy some chapters if nothing else for the art.

I think the sequel series has a time travel or flashback arc dedicated to filling in the gap, but no clue if its fulfilling or not.

Being on a weekly release schedule is stressful af for mangaka. Kubo's health was shot after a while, you could tell the difference from when he first started Bleach to the end.

I prefer single monthly releases, that way the creators can get some down time. That weekly shit is for the birds.

I agree. Now that I think about it, D Gray man has an author who is really going through it health wise.
