I mean I dont blame them for trying - obviously if you can strongarm the industry into making your new gadget the standard its going to position you better in the marketplace. Every company has tried it at some point or other.

Just sucks that the ones who are gonna suffer for it are disabled people.

Just about every new console doesn't support the previous generation controller, this is nothing new. Nintendo has done he same exact thing, 360 controllers don't work on Xbox One. This seems like an unnecessary reach.

Ummm Wii U accepted Wii controllers. Wii accepted gamecube. Xbox Series X works with Xbox One and vice versa.

Pretty ridiculous to act like this is a slight against disabled people rather than an expected inconvenience. Sure, they're making a new controller mandatory purely for the sake of making more money, but that's been pretty standard in the industry forever. Microsoft is being really cool about controllers this gen, and Nintendo is somewhat flexible with controller BC, but we haven't really moved that direction yet.

Sony has plenty of other anti consumer practices that actually hold back the industry, new controllers for a new console isn't the place to draw the line. Although if we're lucky (we as in 100% of people that game outside of those that literally own shares of Sony), Sony will lose heavily for the first few years of this console gen and be forced to make positive changes to protect their market share. If controller BC is one of those changes, neat, if not, oh well.

Speaking from the disabled gaming community: your special insterest and need is not always going to be a company's top priority. It is not "shitting on" someone to have not thought about every conceivable group that might be impacted somewhere, and most of us that have issues know it. I've had to wait for zoom functions, or do without some things for a while and it hasn't killed me.

New adaptive controllers will come with time.

It'd be great if companies allowed their controllers to keep working, but that's money they can get out of customers so don't see it happening. Nothing to do with the disabled community and entirely due to wanting people to pay for new controllers.

3 exceptions (switch requires an extra peripheral, doesn't count). Now count the number of consoles that aren't backwards compatible for controllers. Hint: it's much higher.
