Rural America is that deadbeat relative that sponges off the more successful family members but still complains about everything.

I expect bigotry towards people in rural areas, but don't underestimate their importance. Most food and manufacturing comes from the red areas.

I have nothing against rural people living their rural life. My ancestors are all farmers. My problem is them leaching off government benefits and then complaining about how its mostly minorities leaching off government benefits and making them lazy.

True, the red areas in California have been the largest economy for agriculture in America by profit. Constantly putting down workers in that area.

well, so, maybe both of these things are true but the big red counties that make up the largest share of the red percentage are suburban new york not some hotbeds of ag and manufacturing lmfao

I think kern county's placement is probably more due to oil than ag but I guess that is meaningful there too

My point was that what's important is not necessarily what makes money. One of the comments sums it up well

Or read another way: Red-America produces things that are undervalued and/or have the most competition from imports (food, lumber, manufactured goods, etc). Blue-America produces things that are overvalued or have little competition (specialized expertise, financial assets, etc.)

Could just be twitter shitposting but it's something to consider

what lol
I guess the farmland in California is in more red areas., but most of our food comes from there. The farmland in the midwest is just growing corn for animal for and high fructose corn syrup, so it's not contributing all that much to the food most people eat

How much is this down to factors like the cost of property/housing and bank headquarters being in urban areas?

I live in a urban area (outside of the US) and I can't see myself living in a rural area, but shit like this just increases the divide.

This graph is sort of misleading because not all of those counties heavily favor one candidate. Nassau County for example is 50%% to 49% Trump and may flip to Biden.

Guess which area is the largest manufacturing hub in America - and has been for a long time:

https://www.marketplace.org/2016/10/28/los-angeles-still-largest-manufacturing-hub-country-it-lacks-skilled-labor-force/

Hint: It's as far from Red and Rustbelt as you can get.
