Gloomhaven plays out a lot like an SRPG. Each round you can use one attack ability and one movement ability, with enemies behaving similarly.

WHat's a grand strategy game, liek thsoe Civ games where there are multiple ways of victory? I've played several games like this but none of them were good. Exalted: War for the Throne for example allows you to win by controlling a large amount of land, or completely surrounding the island with your navy, or just having massive ass amounts of money. But it's a terrible game and you shouldn't play it. --- It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha." https://imgur.com/dQgC4kv ... Copied to Clipboard!

Anyway the most SRPG-like tabletop game I've ever played is called Kingdom Death Monster.
It's kinda like if Monster Hunter was set in Dark Souls universe. It's not fit the faint of heart though since you have to assemble the minis. --- It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha." https://imgur.com/dQgC4kv ... Copied to Clipboard!

Tabletop gaming is the origin of rpgs. Basically all of them trace their lineage back to D&D (either directly, or because of other videogames inspired by D&D), which itself is founded off historical and fantasy wargaming. D&D, and a lot of other tabletop rpgs use a grid based battle system with minis.
If you're not interested in the roleplaying aspect, then wargaming is probably what you want. Not sure what's popular these days besides warhammer 40k though. I've always been more into the rpg side of tabletop gaming. --- You load sixteen tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt ... Copied to Clipboard!

Im not sure if he still has them but my dad owned some hex based strategy table top games from like the 70s or 80s. They were civil war themed. Had all kind if units and shit. You could set up all sorts of terrain stat pieces and stuff too. It was definitely too complicated for me.
It reminded me a lot of the Panzer General type videogames of the 90s, only they required a lot of math and prep time. --- PSN: Jiek ... Copied to Clipboard!
