I wish it was real but it's not. Gina Carano, Chris Pratt, and James Arnold Taylor are still going to have jobs. Quinton Flynn might be fucked.

Quinton Flynn is fine. His case is an obvious case of someone trying to ruin his life because he decided to distance himself. It was between two consenting adults, I'm not going to feel sorry for her and it's harmful to call it grooming when there are actual instances of it. This is her trying to ruin his life and he in no shape or form had power over her over his "celeb" status. She was very receptive over everything he was saying - I'd love to see all the normal conversations they had that she had where she was being openly flirtatious with him. This is an equivalent of a pissed off ex airing dirty laundry and there's nothing more to it than that.

Shutting down Twitter or nerfing it to the point that even the hyperpoliticization is against the rules could help reduce cancel culture by 95%.

It was definitely a thing in the 1940s and 1950s when leftists were either getting jailed or not allowed to work.

Nowhere near to the extent it is now. People bitched but unless you cared then no one paid attention to it. Now people are essentially harassing businesses until they fire the person because they said something the mob disagrees with. Social media completely changed things and made it easier then ever to harass people.

Yes, but nowhere near as much as now, back in the day, you literally had to be a monster, a really bad case of Karen, or literally be Don Imus-eque to get such treatment. Removing Twitter is a must to keep everyday people people from suffering.

People still having jobs doesn't mean cancel culture doesn't exist. It means it's quite often a dismal failure, to the point smart people would realize how much of a waste of time it is to try and shame famous people out of work for the few small fry you actually succeed at.

There are documented severe "cancel culture" events that predate Twitter by decades.

Yeah I am talking about within most of our lifetimes. Not something from a 100 years ago when segregation was still a thing. That also wasn't the same thing as cancel culture.

There are quite a few, but removing Twitter will get rid of the more common pettier cases (cancellations for voting a certain way, or disagreements within reason).

They go back to like, the birth of Hollywood. Look up Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. His career was killed on charges he was eventually found innocent for (not just not guilty, but fully innocent).

Something to remember in that if that could happen in the 1920s, imagine the damage done now with unfiltered facts cementing into public opinion at the speed of tweets and no one willing to think they may be over reacting, or in error because they don't have all the facts yet, or really, the attempted cancellation reason being fully political, or personal differences bullshit.

Arbuckle case was so bad due to the Hays Code (the precursor to McCarthyism), for one his films were censored by Hays himself.
