As an Eagle Scout who had a great troop with some of the best men I've ever met as leaders, this is so disappointing and upsetting to me.

At first I thought "that number is way too big" so I did some digging and the claim form requires that you actually name individuals so it's probably legit. Lawyers were anticipating around 10-20k total by the deadline so 90k is way above what anyone expected.

Actually seeing the total number of cases, it is a guarantee. I do hope that some, better run organization can come and replace it. A lot of these claims are from events that took place more than 30 years ago (before the 90's, if not before the 80's), so the current generation of scouts and the previous generation we were a part of an era that sought to stymy these horrible events from occurring with a focus on things like Youth Protection Training and Two Deep Leadership, which basically empowered scouts to speak the fuck up about any abuse, and for two adults to be present whenever dealing with one child just to minimize the risk. That the BSA thought to fix their issues internally instead of, you know, just throwing abusers into prison is where the fuck up lies. I'd as soon seen the previous admin/board who decided this be held responsible more than the current organization, because there's a lot of good the BSA promotes as well.
