Personally I don't mind it in a vaccum but game prices going up on top of all this dlc and lootbox shit rubs me the wrong way.

Greedy. Like you said, if it wasn't for DLC and Micros, it would be fine. With them, it's just them fucking us more cause they can. It's gonna directly effect when I buy games tho. I'm not paying that shit for anything less than Rockstar or From Software quality games. You're an absolute sucker to pay that for yearly games companies fart out and force dlc and micros on every turn.

None of the quality people from Rockstar work there anymore. Their quality is gonna go way down. They're also focused on online modes with heavy micros

Their last game was RDR2, right? Only spazzes say that game was online focused. It has one the most fleshed out single players of last gen. Complaining about DLC they never even said was happening for it is entitlement.

But on that note, if you're right about their quality leaving with those people and that's what we end up seeing, that sucks. I'll judge it when I see it.

I'm also not going to sit here and defend the companies. My actual concern I haven't mentioned is for Nintendo titles on the next generation. They're ridiculously stingy with sales, and imagining the next Kirby retailing for $70 does not make me happy.

Part of the reason I made a point to spring for the disc PS5. Not only can I resell my games, but so far digital console games have proven to not go nearly on sale as quickly or as steeply as physical copies.

Im concerned about the future of game costs as theres a further push to all digital in the future. Without retail stores trying to clear inventory good luck ever getting games to go on sale when the only place we can get them is through a PlayStation digital store... which is even more messed up cause the margins are fatter too due to no manufacturing, shipping costs or whole discounts to retailers...

yeah this is my thoughts too, especially when alot of these triple A games that go for those 60 dollar prices usually get on sale for like 20 bucks or something within a year of release or how publishers are doing the whole "games as a service" thing where they try to get you to spend more money on the game over time it's like you are already trying to get me to spend more money after I buy the game what's the point of increasing the base price

it's pretty dumb, especially given that companies are already doing ridiculous amounts of unnecessary dlc
it frankly doesn't matter how much money a game makes or costs to be produced, these guys will charge way too much for the game at release and charge lots more money down the line (or sometimes they just have the nerve to have day-one dlc)

The article blames the price hike on inflation and development costs, but it really is the copyright laws that allow companies to set the MSRP to $70 or $60 or whatever. Consoles these days monitor what the user is doing through mandatory kernel updates, and if you don't update you can't use their online service. We need copyright, but we don't need a DMCA. The length of copyright should be 10 years at most, not a lifetime + 75 years. Many of the so called digital laws need to be repealed.

Is It still easy to gameshare on PS5? I do that with my brother with most games so a brand new game usually only costs me $30 anyway since we split it 50/50. So Ill end up doing that once I decide to get a PS5 if the option is still available.

But even if that option is not available anymore, I still dont really mind. I dont buy games very often TBH

Although the MSRP was high back then, consoles back then were far cheaper. Televisionswere cheaper, and so were video game accessories. There was no DMCA. There was no need for 120HZ 4K, IPS-Alpha panel television that cost $600. CRT televisions displayed true blacks, there was little stuttering and lag.

Which brings me to my point, it's copyright that inflates the cost of video games.

Even though I understand games take more money and time to develop and create, I'm still not happy about it. Paid DLC is definitely still a thing and the extra money and time put towards the game doesn't guarantee a higher quality product overall. Also we pay more money for console peripherals and now we have to pay more for games as well? When does it stop? So what is the price floor on new higher cost games now? $30?

Eh. This doesnt bother as much because the thought that people back then bought Superman 64 for $70 to find a completely broken game was awful.... and hilarious. At least most games these days with that kind of price tag are playable past the intro, also most devs are able to patch things pretty quick, if they care enough.

Myself, I buy maybe one, two games at most in a year these days.
