Secondly, the vaccine is over 90% effectiveness. That is more than enough to drive the virus into extinction like we did with smallpox (also 90% effective vaccine)

Smallpox was eradicated almost 200 years after the first vaccine was introduced. It took the help and cooperation of the entire world to get rid of smallpox. We can't even get everyone to wear a mask inside a Walmart lol

Getting a vaccine (which is going to be free) is far less taxing on people than wearing masks everywhere. It took a while to get rid of it all but we didn't have the manufacturing and distributing technology back then than we do now.

Also the smallpox vaccine was the first vaccine ever so people were justified in being suspicious. But in the end we defeated it.

I think you have way too much faith in people, America especially. You still have people that think covid is fake. You still have anti vaxxers. You have people that wouldn't consider themselves anti vaxxers but will not want to take a vaccine that was fast tracked in a way that no other vaccine has been before.

I think it's a little fantastical and comparing it to an antiquated, almost ritualistic thing like signing for selective service is too.
