Well was the bigger person there. Blaming himself. But he literally blamed himself for not guessing her personal life issues that she let slip into the her work life.

To be fair, and this is the HR admin in me, while people re supposed to leave home at home that's not always possible. It's in everyone's best interest to have a dialogue with the troubled employee/actor and see if they want to talk or need a day or two off. It is astonishing how simply acknowledging that someone clearly isnt 100% can improve their performance and attitude, sometimes people just want to talk/vent or just know that someone else there cares enough to ask.
As the star of the show, I think that may have gone a long way with her if Will had had that conversation. Not his responsibility per se, but at the same time if you want your show/business to run smoothly you try and retain your talent (to a reasonable extent of course).

Not sure about in more recent times butIve definitely seen previous interviews over the years where other cast members stated less than favorable things about her.

First you sound like a very nice HR person. But I get your point, but Will was 20 something at the time and she was 40 something and seasoned. That is way to much weight to put on well. To understand the emotional well being of a adult women. Also other people felt the same way. You noticed Carlton wasn't out there for no damn hugs. A lot of people attacked him for this. But you don't have to give someone forgiveness.

Lastly this one is pure guessing. But if everyone else loved her then I don't think Will would have push to have her gone. Will has worked with so many people and she is the only person who attacks him like that. But I am bias ever since I was little kid he was been my favorite actor . But I think this POV was non bias.

Will was 22 and Janet Hubert was 34 when the show started. I thought she was older as well but she was still young too.

OG Aunt Viv was amazing in that role though. She really did get the short end of the stick. Like a lot of things that tend to go sideways, this could have been handled much better if people would have just communicated instead of making assumptions. I have to check myself on that at times too and realize if someone might be in a bad mood it might not even be about me, it could be personal problems that they might be going through.

I mean lets not act like jealousy didnt play a role here either. Will Smith was a rapper with no acting experience running the show. Decisions were rightfully made around him. She was an established actress who felt slighted because of it. Whatever personal issues she had got coupled with her resentment of how the execs generally put Will above her and the fact that he was the much bigger star.

you dont just go on a 30 year rampage against someone for much less.

At a minimum I know Alfonso Ribeiro was not a fan of her at all.

Yeah, from what I remember from interviews I've seen, she was offered a contract renewal at a level of pay she wasn't happy with. She turned it down and demanded more pay. She had some conversations with other cast members after doing that and decided to accept the original offer, but by that time they had already decided to move on.

I THINK that's the gist of it, but the exact details are fuzzy.

And yeah, generally, the cast thought she took things too far with her antics off-screen.

When trying to find some facts to bring up to Counter TheoryzC's slander on Light Skin aunt Viv. I came across this...

e did however, perhaps tellingly, exalt Hubert-Whitten, saying: When you make a show, anytime you make a change, it's going to be excruciating and painful. I think that Janet Hubert Whitten brought a really powerful dignity to the show.
She's brilliant... as an artist. She sings, she dances. She's, like, a really powerful artist. So I loved what she brought to The Fresh Prince.

At the same time she was saying that she was attacking him and Jada. Like once more I am super Will Fan so I know I might be coming at this with Bias. But I really think it was her.

Also back to TheoryzC's slander, I liked Light Aunt Viv's mothering style better. But I will give it up for OG Aunt Viv at the Jail. Hands down New Aunt Viv could not have done that.

Not really her fault. She was a good actress and you could argue was more motherly. But even by that part of the show, it had pretty much shifted to show about Wills relationship and him going to school with Carlton. Even Hillary having her own show she didnt have many storylines that didnt involve Will. I cant imagine how they would have even worked the original aunt Viv into the later seasons and make it like the first 3.
