If a 17 y/o committed a crime just BEFORE his birthday (ex: a week or a few days after), Should he be tried as a minor or adult?

Suppose a 17 y/o kid committed a crime just before they were about to turn 18 and technically since they're still 17, they would be tried into the juvenile justice system..but suppose they were about a week away or even a few days away to turning 18, would that change your mind whether they should be tried as a minor still or is it close enough it should be an adult sentence?.

you'd be surprised at what people think

I feel like every single teenager I hear about getting arrested is always tried as an adult regardless

Tbh I don't really know what that means

Does it depend upon age at the time of the offence or at the time of the trial?

For lesser things, a minor. For major things, as an adult. Wouldn't want to set a precedent that they get a 'freebie' if they do the crime before they are 18, after all.

If a girl is still legally a minor at 17 years and 364 days, a guy is too.

There's no point in having a major/minor system if you're not going to honor it. If the crime happens the day before his birthday, he should still be considered a minor because every other context does that the same way.

Beyond that, there should be a second category for offenders aged 18 to 25 where they get reduced or alternative sentencing, because they're still not fully adults at that point.

Adult. I believe some crimes should be tried as adults regardless.
