Been sleeping a lot more, hardly ever feel any desire to take the day or really do anything but lay here. Most of the time my mind feels blank then suddenly I'm hit with a desire to either cry or c some kind of self harm to myself such as slapping, biting, hitting and most recently pinching myself as punishments for screwing up something or forgetting something, I've been confused and forgetful alot more, too.

Ah, finally the topic for me. I'm terribly depressed and considering calling out of work. I need the money and I've missed so many days after only being there a month, already, but I can already feel its going to be one of those "i just can't do this" days.

Sleep is the only release, but my dreams are only ever nightmares where I relive past trauma and grapple with my subconscious.

I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder in 2016 but I've been depressed for much of my life, going all the way back to childhood. Started coming out of it a few years ago with a whole lot of work and I've more or less turned my life around. I never thought I had seasonal depression or anything like that but that's mostly because I was always so low that I don't think any change for better or worse carried any real distinction.

This year's a bit different though and maybe it's just pandemic fatigue related but as soon as the cold weather (or at least what counts for it here) hit, I started feeling pretty down. I'm having to work a little harder to get into my routine every day, stay optimistic, and not fall into old bad habits. I played vidya for like 11 hours today, something I'd not done in years and I ate a little bit too much. I feel not too great about those things but eh. Gonna keep on truckin'. Haven't come this far to slide back into that.

Why a routine? Why do you need a routine? That's what fucks me up. I love just randomly switching things up some nights. Do something different you might find something in life you like more than staring at the tv for 12 hour a day.

People with depression need a routine as a way of overriding a lack of drive/dread of everything. That being said, it should obviously be a healthy routine, not a 12-hours-of-tv routine.

You can, of course, include periods of free time for things like trying something different.

I feel like a routine would just be spinning wheels if you're already depressed.

I mean, you can spin wheels without managing a routine, by ending up not doing anything at all, or harming yourself. A depressed person isn't typically gonna have the will to "change things up" as you like to do. Maintaining health functions helps to maintain a healthy mindset, stability and such.

I was massively depressed until recently I did an appointment with a psychiatrist for the first time in my life. Those meds freaking worked miracles, and I felt like genuinely happy for a few days til reality was a bit too harsh to truly feel good about myself. But I knew a few depressed people who've never tried it out and heavily recommended it to them. I admit my anxiety related meds did not particularly have a big effect on me, but I guess I'll know for sure whether or not they work once I get in situations of massively anxiety, which will happen the moment I try to make my life better

I second this. I have had bad experience with medicine which turned me off from it for far too long, but that shouldn't stop people from trying.
