While the average space marine or custode can do as much or little as the story demands (40k rule of thumb) there are canon instances where both do the most outrageous goddamn shit alone. There was a single space marine who took out a named Tyranid hero, iirc two times as well, solo. This thing has wrecked worlds prior.

That's one glimmer among a million examples. Not an astartes, but a small number of custodes held back an infinite tide of demons for years nonstop in the webway. The endurance and skill of these dudes is supposed to instill a primal fear and shock regular humans, due to their presence, in disbelieving what they witness. Speed, ferocity, etc.

I don't mean to sperg out, and they have their limits, but a horde of under 100k orcs and a few "hero" units (mostly the nazghul) wouldn't be much for one to handle if they had their power armor, fully rested, chainsword, bolt pistol and god forbid if you give them better melee weapons it's a wrap. Remember what Sauron did to the elves in the beginning? That's weak tier compared to one SM.

The Orks are gigantic and are stupid strong. They love a good scrap and care about literally nothing else. A greenshirt Ork Boyz unit is 7 feet tall and 100% muscle. They'd thing Uruks were cute and there were only Orcs at the black gate.

Is that the new intro? I liked the old one better. I'm actually a pretty hardcore fan of both 40k and LOTR. I'm not shitting on Orcs, it's just a mob of pissed off little-humans vs an astartes to me. If you asked me Naked Astartes vs Club Wielding Cave Troll, I'd lean Cave Troll, for example.

That was the very first original intro to the previous incarnation game that became 40k.

I just google so I barely know about it, but I guess it was still called warhammer 40k but rogue trader too.

Nope. Sauron had an army in the thousands, with Felbeasts and Trolls in addition to all the Orcs.
