"Yup... Oh no! After you left you walked right into a big bunker full of thousands of crazy insane cannibals who are gonna eat you."
"Wut? Ok.. We gonna be imprisoned or have to take the complex over or have to deal with this civilization or learn interesting worldbuilding aspects about the personalities and backst-"
"No you leave immediately."
Erm... ok?
"Now you're going to go a communications network to find Satalite Maps of Russia."
Erm... ok?.... Why?
"Dunno... but now you're in Mad Max!"
Erm.... ok?

It's just erm...ok? the game.

And Christ these loading times are terrible.

It's not an awful game, I love some of the small touches like buming around on the train, being able to holester weapons among non hostile NPCs, enemies who surrender in fear if you kill all of their friends but it doesn't feel like Metro at all and the story is bananas. It's written like a small child with action figures on a sugar rush going "And then another thing happened!"

Also Miller and Artyom are acting nothing like how they used to act in the previous games...

Last Light was way better.

That's not true

The NPCs talk about how for the first few years they still had contact with people outside of Moscow.

But then Hanza put up radio jammers, killed everyone who entered the Metro and lied that everyone else had died.

I haven't finished the game so we'll see what happens but thus far there has been no apparent reason for them to have done this

I get what your saying TC.I really like the Metro games but Exodus did make me do things that I didnt want to do because it didnt make sense.

It was kind of frustrating how limited your approach to the story is considering the obvious options you could of had.

I mentally checked out of the story pretty early on but enjoyed the gameplay and immersion (ranger hardcore) up to the Caspian Sea. That level was so dumb, empty and buggy that it made me stop playing. The formula had run its course and it didn't do enough things to keep me interested.

I'm playing on the PS4 and I found the achievement percentages very telling.

Only Half the players who played the game made it to the cannibals and only 20% of players saved Duke

Sure that's not counting PC players but it is showing how many people that played this game gave up on it and that half of them who didn't give up weren't paying attention to the plot when they were playing it

I was actually just talking about this game with my brother at Thanksgiving dinner today, since he played and loved the first two, but not the third.

I'll say the same thing I said to him - what made the first two Metro games especially good and not just a generic post-apocalyptic shooter WAS the Metro. Get up and out of the Metro for longer than just a little scenery mixup, and you've just got a bog-standard post-apocalyptic shooter with Russian accents.

the 3rd novel ended up with the metro opening up with some epilogue iirc took place outside. it's been some years but that's what i remember

Yeah I think it kind of is missing the special sauce of the first two games and I dont consider it the canon future of them because it cheapens a lot of what happens in them

BUT also I think it has enough moments to justify its existence and the cast is strong enough to make a playthrough worthwhile and its still better than 90% of other big releases

Artyom's friends are the best part of the game

Pity the story is so dumb
