The state legislature already determined years ago that the electors are awarded to the candidate with the most votes in the state. They do not have another option unless they can somehow pass a law overturning it with a veto proof majority.

That's one way to get rid of the electoral college, just start making rules about who to send to vote based on who controls the state. Set that precedence and hopefully we can go to just a popular vote to counter act that nonsense, or start a civil war.
