Anyone else do white elephant with friends or family or whatever? Stuff Ive given before have been the Microwave Cooking for One cookbook and a toilet light that makes the inside of a toilet glow different colors.

this year Im thinking of getting this fake pirate chest on amazon and filling it with plastic gems and doubloons, but Im not sure if thats too dumb

Yeah filling it with candy would be a better idea imo.

We do a white elephant each year, target has a lot of really cool, under $20 gifts. Some things we've gotten in the past include : a miniature drone, a plinko bottle opener, various bottles of booze...

This year I found a cookbook for when you're hungover so that'll be my contribution.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was, and now what I'm with isn't it. And what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

More racism by the left smh

Why's it got to be a white elephant? Why not a black elephant or Hispanic elephant?

I figured this was literally a joke topic about what kind of gift to give a "white elephant"

And then, I was curious, if I'd said peanuts, would I be filling into a racial stereotype?

elephants are a species though dude and not a race

now if you said some stereotypical mean thing about Indian elephants or African elephants in particular, then that might seem kinda messed up to any elephants in the world figured out how to read and also just so happened to be potders and read your post

So where is the line drawn between the difference in what denotes something as a "race" vs a "breed"

I dunno man

when I hear breed I think about horses and dogs types. Im not sure if the same term is applicable to humans

Like Im not positive if different races are different breeds of people. It certainly doesnt sound right

From what I can tell based on my internet searches today, the tortilla blanket is without a doubt the top joke gift of 2020

My family, cousins, and relatives do it every year. Budget is $15 but I usually spend around $20-25 and bring something useful. The exchange is meant to be fun and games but I very much rather bring something I hope will be kept/used instead of tossed aside.

Best part is all the stealing or someone getting robbed only for them to open another gift and it is the same thing stolen from them. I feel sorry for the kids who open gifts and find something like dishes, lotion, perfume, etc. Surprisingly Tupperware is always a popular item that gets stolen.

its always best imo when a couple of the gifts are legitimately good, that way some people are competing to end up with it at the end

I got my wife a tortilla blanket a few years ago for her birthday! Just an fyi it's a little small. Definitely a good blanket to throw over your shoulders but, I wouldn't lay in bed and use it to cover me.

Some of my cousins encourage their kids to steal certain gifts hoping no one would want to steal from a kid. Of course it just result in other cousins encouraging their own kids to steal from the other kids. The kids are getting older though and might rather go for their own choice.

We have long running joke with a thigh master device. My cousin re-gifted it 10+ years ago and ever since it became the "punishment" gift where the winner must keep it and re-gift it again the following year. Some folks have included $15 so the winner still gets something. People have gotten creative though in using different boxes/bags since everyone knows what shape/size box to avoid.
