Been playing through the mafia series out of boredom really. But compared to what else is out there. I'm not a huge fan of teh open world genre and video games now in general, because they are just rehashing the same games over and over at this point and gameplay mechanics, dumbing down etc.. I don't think it's for a lack of new ideas at least on my end but it's controlled by corporations. Gunplay, driving , things to do are all fairly average and there is a disconnect between the open world and the player compared to what Rockstar does, but it's still more engaging in ways. The gameplay loop gets kind of repetitive but with all the dlc and everything if you take your time it's better than GTA in ways. THe hype that is out there is obnoxious imo. People selling lies and just following what trends vs having minds of their own. It's actuall rated about right. I'd give it a 7 but compared to what else is out there. Still pretty standard open world, drive here, watch a cutscene, collectibles, same gameplay loop. But they give you a lot to do and the story is at least good. The world itself is also engaging although not really a sand box or stretching boundaries anywhere. Sound quality and music is excellent. I can deal with a few bugs.

Great atmosphere, lighting, raytracing HDR,

gameplay is just GENERIC, which is weird they went trying to recreate Mafia 1 gameplay

NOT the better MAFIA 3 gameplay......weird they are using Mafia 3 engine btw

My main issue with open world games is they all follow the same trends of what sells to the masses. Rockstar, 2k, Bethesda, CD Projekt red used to be really good in their own right. Ubisoft has completely sold out. Bethesda has too. Rockstar and CD Projekt red still put quality first but they are still following the same trends of action adventure, actio/rpg vs coming up with something new. 2k has sold out too at this point. 2k and bioware used to be the best imo.. But have sacrificed quality. It's still there if you look for it though. Cyberpunk should be really good but not straying too much from that.

It just gets super repetitive if you want to try and do everything. Like, more so than other open world games

"HAVE YOUR OWN MIND! GEEEZ!..you are right tho"

But yeah. It's average. I think it starting so strong and then immediately going into a repetitive gameplay loop is a disappointing experience. You build up all this tension and energy in the story and then immediately stagnate. I forget that I'm suppose to care by the next time something happens.

Yeah I enjoyed it overall, but I recall a stark difference between the amazingly written and acted out cutscenes and the general clear out this place over and over aspect of the rest of the game.

I like that they made it more open world compared to the first 2. It's just kind of boring. Those long fetch quests delivering weed and everythign and it's all pretty standard. I like open world games with driving and cutscenes but it could be more engaging. Cyberpunk is going to be more rpg. What I really want is a real action adventure detective game or something in an open world. It doesn't have to be 60 hours long either with padding. I'll take a smaller game with replay value over that, that isn't completely repetitive like LA Noire that just rinses and repeats the same interrogations and clue collecting. The story in Mafia 3 is at least good.

The game was harshly punished for the horrendous glitches.

I'm actually amazed at how much there is to do with all the dlc's. It's not as repetitive as people say either. They actually mix things up a bit in each district and how it all comes together is kind of cool.. The mechanics seem kind of half baked like it could have been a lot better. I like it though. I'm enjoying more than GTA like I said in ways.

Yeah after all the patches dropped the game became pretty great. Glad I bought it late, had the same experience with Unity.

Game companies need to stop having such buggy and horrible launches for their games if they don't want them to fall into obscurity

I played it when it was free on PS+. I feel like it tried to do so many things and had a bunch of mechanics and it didn't really do any of it particularly well.

My biggest beef with the game (as minor as it was) was that you couldnt enter stores to buy / steal clothes like in Mafia 2 lol. It just felt like the open world solely existed for getting from point A to point B.

I tried playing watch dogs 2. I could not finish that game both times I tried. I actually finished mafia 3. This is my 2nd playthrough with all the dlc's from the start. I agree it's pretty mediocre but there is potential there for a great game. Watch Dogs 2 might be loaded with more "fun things" to do but the overarching premise of that game is just utter garbage imo. The whole script kiddies and you must like us thing. It's trying way too hard. And the stuff to do really isn't that fun. There is a lot of it. Mass Effect was good. The original rockstar games. Bioware. Bethesda. I'm tired of the same formula and rehashing the same games. I'll play Cyberpunk too. I'm just killing time here.

I just finished it, and I really liked it a lot. The world is very vibrant and detailed, and I liked how drastically different all the different districts felt. Even the bayou was incredibly well-crafted IMO.

I'm also a sucker for games that let me gradually take over the map, so I really liked that they took it a couple of steps further and had me taking out the individual rackets and enforcers before I could take out the boss of the district and claim that part of the map.

I will almost certainly be playing this game again, but maybe next time I'll do the grow house stuff first so it will actually be worth getting into.

One those games that would of benefitted by cutting the fat. Id much rather have the 10-12 hour version where I still care what's happening by the time something happens again. Cause it's not even like you can skip most the repetitive stuff. You gotta earn that next major cutscene. Earn it in a very boring tedious way.

Same here. I actually fucking loved Unity, and was constantly in awe of how well detailed they made the city.

Lincoln Clay is a good protagonist. John Donovan is awesome too. He and Cole Phelps are up my alley. Ubisoft isn't terrible. I enjoyed Odyssey and some of the original AC games. Unity was fairly memorable but haven't gone back to play it it was so buggy. I hated Syndicate. Mafia 3 overall the entire story is memorable. $60 for all 3 mafia games really isn't a bad deal for the amount you get . My favorite game ever is probably Blade Runner or Diablo. I want a game like that with more action in an open world. I'll enjoy Cyberpunk but it's going to be mostly action/rpg.

I like it a lot. The story is basic, but the characters are great especially Lincoln, Vito, John Donovan, and Sal Marcano.

I actually didn't mind the "repetiive" gamplay myself, but yeah they could have switched it up after a while. I love the stealth aspect and sneaking in different entrances and such. One favorite thing to do is get in a firefight with an enemy, sneak off while he's firing on where I was, sneak up behind him and whistle, let him turn around and then bam!

I've been a fan of the series since the first one. I hope there will be a Mafia 4..
