Lol You can pretty much walk up to any UPS or FedEx and they'll throw you a shirt without even asking your name.

With that said, I've know A LOT of people that worked for both companies and every single one endlessly talked about how much they hated the job.

I interviewed with UPS to be a driver once and they keep saying how great the pay is

the reason the pay is good (60k+) is because you work 60-70 hours a week. Per hour it's not good at all. They actually asked if I was in a relationship and implied it would interfere with the work. It was the most corporate thing I've experienced in my life

Working for a shitty job that pays is STILL much better then working for a shitty job that doesn't.

My wife works for Fedex and as far as I've been told they still have half of their regular full-time employees furloughed. Dunno about UPS though.

Look it'll sound dumb and normally I wouldn't even say this but this is like the second topic I've seen of yours in a week about how miserable you are.

Have you looked into the military at all?

I wouldve thought with everyone staying home that courier business would be booming and theyd be scrambling for help. Huh.

Stayed at a dead end job for 8 years bc of convenience. Now Im 29 with no real skills or training, and cant afford further education. Pretty much my entire work history is fast food or security, which Im topped out in.

not trying to beat myself up, but thats the reality of the situation

I quit UPS at the start of the pandemic after working for them for 6 years.

I previously had worked for FedEx for 2 years.

I quit UPS, among many other reasons, mainly due to their lack of concern about covid.

They're both really garbage companies to work for and I'm happy I am no longer associated with them. They're both widely known for treating their workers like garbage.

UPS is a good step better than FedEx though because UPS workers are unionized. The union isn't great and it seems like they're out to screw you as well, but it still gets you a better deal than no union.

UPS is looking to hire 500,000 new employees in the next 6 months.

That's not at all unusual. This job has been the cause of many failed marriages, especially management.

I've been with UPS for 12 years now. It takes a very special kind of personality to turn this job into a career. You basically have to feed off negativity and chaos. Idk what I'd do without this place honestly, I love it.

Youre from the same area as me. Youd probably only be getting a position at the main hub in Middleburg Hts. Seasonal positions are usually already full this time of year and they rarely do training for inside operations during peak season.

It's a tough job, but you get full benefits after a year. The raises are pretty decent too. Youre pretty much only getting part time hours though. Drivers are too competitive of a position in the area. If you want full time, then be prepared to put in 10 years before you even have a chance.

Shifts are sunrise (5am-10am) Twilight (4pm-9pm) Night (10pm-3am). I believe there's some sort of day shift now too. The actual start times vary day to day. Your shift is over when all the trucks are done. If youre in the front of the process you get less time than those at the end.

I worked there on Night shift through college and as a second job for a total of 12 years. I left making like $25/hr because my day job essentially bought me out. I recommend the unloading position. It's physically taxing but takes zero mental ability. Other positions are nearly as physical but you also need to think. Unload you put boxes on a conveyor belt and try to put the labels up. Sorting you make a whopping extra dollar to sometimes work harder and also remember what zip codes go where. Loading you try to build a wall out of random boxes that show up. It's slower but mentally frustrating

Damn youre pretty close, thats only one city over.

I appreciate the info. I work full time currently at $15 per hour. I wouldnt mind a new shift if it means a better opportunity

I'm not sure what starting wage is atm. They have a new contract since I left. It was like $10 and then you got another raise after 30 days and a second after 90. So you'd make like $12 once you stuck things out. From history, I'd add about $2 to that if I had to guess. Then like $1 or so raise every year plus some random raises thrown in there. Benefits are fantastic. It's like 20-$50 for virtually anything so factor that in too.

If you get an interview just make sure you say you're looking to stay there more than a year and that you don't miss work often. They'll have a question about do you think you can handle the physical work and the obvious answer is yes but just relate some past job experience or something.

I've never meant anything more in my entire life

Please stay away from UPS and FedEx. I am much happier now that I know I will never step foot inside one of those warehouses again.

It's honestly blowing my mind that I get to celebrate Christmas this year without worrying about an excessive work load. Peak season at those companies was always a dumpster fire.
