Take note of which elements it could possibly be and then try it out on different pokemon of types weak to the element it could possibly be until you know for sure. Then reset if its bad. Check if the attack hits them for super effective, neutral, not very effective damage or if they're immune. Like if you fight a Geodude and Hidden Power does 0 damage then you know it's electric. Reset and then teach Hidden Power to Manectric and do the same steps.
