I played Witcher 3 just this year. It was $15, and I thought it was relatively smooth as far as bugs go, and an amazing value for that price.

Based on how the social media leads and directors have been acting over the last year plus, I would more inclined to beleive this this was left in intentionally rather than slipped passed.

CDPR has come closer and closer to being a studio straight up run by GamerGaters.

Im listening to the GB video right now and hearing Jeff G talk about how he stopped driving places because the frame rate would break every time he tried to get into a car and how sometimes he would lose the ability to sprint for some reason until he paused and unpaused the game and a bunch of graphical stuff... it really sounds like a technical mess

i guess im not clear yet if its worse than the average Bethesda release and I always play those games at launch so maybe its not a dealbreaker, but I dunno.
I think if the ethics in games journalism crowd didnt feel a weird need to defend the game, theyd be upset about the state its being released in and the lack of console review copies.

Nanis, the game itself chose to not only include various gender options but make it a selling point, so thats a totally fair thing to judge the game on. Games are more than just sound and graphics, so obviously reviews should reflect that. Imagine criticising a film review for discussing a films handling of the themes it set out to address.

Regarding the posters I think the bigger issue was using them as marketing for the game. Obviously it undercuts the very standard cyberpunk message of commodifying people to sell products is bad if youre doing that yourself. In general most of the troubling stuff in the marketing thankfully doesnt seem to be as bad as the marketing suggested it could be.

It does raise the question of how some stuff was getting past the main studio heads. In addition to that, this epilepsy stuff slipping past is shameful, and of course its a buggy mess. To quote the Giant Bomb stream, THEY SHOULD HAVE DELAYED THIS GAME MORE.

But with that said, Im glad it seems like the core of it seems to be really good and Im looking forward to getting it after some patches.

Why is that inherently unprofessional? Polygon knew what they were getting into when they hired the writer, there was presumably an editor involved... obviously she wrote something the publication was comfortable with. How is performing the task you were hired to do in any way unprofessional? Theres an audience for that type of criticism.

Some people want game reviews to be basically a product review like youd do for a toaster, and other people want game reviews to be more critical examinations of a game as a piece of art. These two things provide different value to different people and theres no reason they cant coexist.
I dont understand why you (or anyone) have a problem with different ways of looking at games. Just read the kind of thing you want to read.

There was definitely a... I don't want to say false advertisement because that's a loaded term, but misleading element to it, but also it's a part of the game so should be open to a thematic critique. A review is an analysis of the whole work. If you just want a product review of a game, many websites now do technical analyses. But obviously those aren't the same as a critical review.

Also, it's weird that I'm saying this in this topic, but the far (and centre-, and just left) left of course backed the Allies in WWII. Just look at who were leading the big 3 at the end of the war - a left (by American standards) American government, a left/right UK coalition followed by the most left wing government in UK history, and the communists. More to the point, if a review wanted to look at a war game and say "this is propaganda" they are more than welcome to provided they can make the point well using evidence from the work. We've seen this happen with the last two Call of Duty games and nobody really complained because it's totally valid.

what is a problem is that a lot of reviews are going to be outdated day one.

the version the reviewers have carries a unique DRM that we know affects performance, possibly may interact with other elements. so what they're playing now will not be the version any of us play, it'll be better right out the gate.

And it fascinates me how a certain subset of 'Gamers' despise Naughty Dog now but defend CDPR at all costs, despite both of them being awful corporations in largely the same ways. I guess being outwardly transphobic is enough of a benefit for them to outweigh the rest.

A combination of the social team openly flirting with the same horrible people doing the harassment, and simply having built up a good will shield. I doubt that they can pull this off for their next game given everything going on during Cyberpunk's development. It's a bit like Naughty Dog during Uncharted 4. A lot of shady stuff happened there at that time, they got away with it, but they didn't get away with it the next time even when you discount the far right losers.

There are also way more black people than there are trans people, and it's worth noting that the absurd online mob rule is often not how the latter acts in the real world. I know some trans people, and almost all of them just want to blend in and be treated normally without every single thing coming down to their gender. Put them on the internet and read their Facebook feed though and they're all up in the SJW nonsense. When you actually talk to real people, turns out they don't act the same in person that they do on a computer screen. Imagine that.

Almost no gamer actually cares about the business side of what they're playing and doesn't want obsessive political idiocy shoehorned into everything. I don't know how many times you people need to learn this lesson the hard way, but the internet is not real life. What's the last political poll that was actually right? Weren't they off by like 20 points on Susan Collins? None of the stuff you people are talking about actually translates into how people think when they're off of a monitor.

People don't hate TLOU2 because of Uncharted 4 delays; they hate it because no one wants to eat garbage and be lectured at. "Doctor Uckman" actually went on Twitter to rally for that garbage, and it backfired so hilariously that Ghost of Tsushima will probably win game of the year now.

The "here is what gamers are saying" bit, which is an age-old tactic of pretending to have a false consensus to make a dumb point seem valid. This is not, at all, "what gamers are saying". In the real world, I promise next to no one who actually plays this will notice or care about any of the drivel these reviewers are bitching about. Gamers care about two things -- is a game good and is a game fun. That's it.

And the vast majority don't want or care about political garbage infecting everything.

If you read my Game of the Decade 2 PCA, I covered all that and largely agree what Druckmann pulled with her was garbage. The dude is so woke he fired a very talented female writer to push for more diversity, because Neil Druckmann is a fucking idiot.

That said, of the people who played through the TLOU games, what percentage know who Amy even is? I'm willing to bet it's less than 1%, if that. Gamers by and large couldn't care less about any of this stuff.
