Shepard shouldn't come back at all unless he's the protagonist again

One possible thing could be Liara somehow got pregnant with Shepard at some point before the final battle and the game's protagonist is their child on some adventure maybe even eventually finding Shepard in a cliff hanger ending that never gets resolved*.

*iirc Asari just use sex for pleasure, for mating they use the mind meld and through touch they absorb some of the DNA of the mate and use that as blueprint for a child. With that sci-fi magic explanation they could get away with Shepard and Liara having a child for players who didn't romance Liara.

I don't want to be Shepard for this. I'd rather be a new character and have them do what they did in Dragon Age Inquisition for Hawke.

I love how Dragon Age handled the Inquisitor being someone completely new. Most games simply "forget" and this game is like "nah bro we TRIED to get them we just couldn't find them and you're here so make-do".

I know what you're talking about. But that ending was only gotten if you maxed out war assets (until they no longer required it).

Let's say in the remaster you get that ending than transfer the save over to the new game. Bioware can still say that Shepard is MIA and presumed dead.

That would mean you'd be playing as an Asari.

I honestly think they'll just retcon the ending similar to Deus Ex Invisible War and bring back Shepard.
