Every gaming community on the internet lost its mind with the Snake announcement. It may still be the biggest gaming megaton of the online era - either that or the Twilight Princess reveal.

I doubt they can ever top Snake on this one. Even announcing Goku might not beat it and that would break the internet.

From a personal perspective, Cloud and now Sephiroth are up there. Really didn't see those coming. Mega Man was also really great, it was still at a point where we weren't expecting third party and the trailer was fantastic too. Piranha Plant is a low key top tier reveal. Came in the middle of a direct that had just said we'd seen the whole roster and was the most random thing.

Mega Man was the first in the style they do new characters now right

so that probably makes him second to Snake, because that helped lead to production on intros being more hype.

If you don't count the Villager reveal that was part of the announcement trailer for 4, then yeah. I think Villager's was the first time we saw the now famous Smash envelope. Wii Fit's was the same day as Mega Man too I think.

Snake's was technically part of Meta Knight, Pit, ZSS and Wario's reveal trailer, I prefer how they do them now but having all in one like that was rad.
