Seeing a character people loved for decades get shit on, character assassinated, and made into a fucking bitch ass coward is not something people forget or forgive.

Pretty sure that Logan showed how to do it the right way with the man redeeming himself with one final moment of glory saving others, and making a difference one last time.

Logan showed how to do the cynical hero who quit the right way, to the point even when he is low he still has little moments of his past self.

How come whenever somebody criticizes Luke's character in TLJ the only defense is rubber banding to the opposite extreme? Nobody wants space jesus, but they also don't want to character, who previously symbolized hope, to reject a call for help from his sister in her most desperate hour.

Having Luke watch a replay of Leia's message to Obi-Wan and reject her call for support goes way beyond "depth of character."

But they freed that one space horse. That makes it all worth it.

And besides, although they weren't able to contact the person they needed to reach, they were able to completely trust a total stranger who happened to be sharing their jail cell who also just happened to be as skilled as one of the greatest hackers in the Galaxy.

Edit: who could have escaped at any moment but for whatever reason decided to wait until that exact moment when the heroes happened to need him. Also that he could betray them later in a convenient plot contrivance.

The resistance having enough people to fit into the falcon is a small as hell group of people and they would be finished in any other movie including SW as clearly even in TLJ no one shows up to help them. Luke does not save them either, Kylos stupidity does.

Luke saves them by taking advantage of Kylo's emotional state. Like Luke is intentionally trying to piss off an already upset Kylo at the end there, of course Luke is saving them.

There is nothing amazing about two main characters fighting elite mooks at all, that being the big amazing scene just goes to show how TLJ had nothing special or interesting going for it.

Episode 2a lightsaber battles were more interesting.

Heres what I think I know. J. J. wrote Episode VII, as well as drafts for VIII & IX. Then Rian Johnson arrived and wrote The Last Jedi entirely. I believe there was some sort of general consensus on the main lines of the trilogy, but apart from that, every director writes and realizes his film in his own way. Rian Johnson and J. J. Abrams met to discuss all of this, although Episode VIII is still his very own work. I believe Rian didnt keep anything from the first draft of Episode VIII.

Wow this is just sad, no Kylos stupidity could have been easily canceled by any of the ranking officers there by just ignoring crybaby Ren and them keep going on to wiping out the resistance.

Luke was not doing anything and anyone with a brain would think oh shit a jedi....wait he is not doing anything, false alarm back to taking down the enemy.

Had we actually gotten Luke being there and actually making a difference then yes heroic sacrifice, instead he never does anything but be an illusion.

Umm the characters that were guarding Snoke were not the Royal Guards from ROTJ guarding Palpatine. Those guards had force abilities and were actually senate guards originally as ROTS showed an earlier version of them who Yoda knocked out with force push.

Snokes guards were just in TLJ, they were not the legendary royal guards, and if you think Rey and Kylo could have beaten Royal guards you would be wrong.

The elite mooks in TLJ were a joke since no one in their right mind would think Kylo or Rey was in any danger. Dooku in AOTC was a real threat as was Maul from TPM.
