That's one of the biggest "oh shit" moments in the movie. I don't know why it's always stood out to me.

Cause the way it was shot was so cool. Just her moving the phone to her other hand and then that hand going off screen and then the slow reveal of it.

I love that movie but it's been so long I didn't know what you were referencing.

Is it weird that The Terminator was smart enough to pick up on human mannerisms like calling the dog wolfie and calling the foster mom janelle, but not the other stuff in the movie like why humans cry?

Eh, I did not see a problem with it.

The terminators probably recognize certain human patterns like pet naming, which would make it easier to fool their human targets. But actually understanding the emotions behind crying or some other vague human characteristic (e.g. expressions of love) might be beyond Skynets programming. But of course this is all speculation of a work of fiction.

I never realized how John went for a hug, but Sarah didn't. She only checked for injuries and that made John cry. Poor kid was so happy to see his mother.

I really need to re-watch this movie. My brain remembers all the big action setpieces but little moments like this are brilliant and I've just totally purged them from my memory.

May have been from the first one, but there was a scene (where now I think it WAS from the first one since I think it was Reese telling Sarah) some of the earlier models were detectable by dogs. I just figured it was a nod to that, that when John said his dog never barked, he knew something was up.

I don't see how the two are comparable. One is the Terminator just using data to catch the T-1000 in a lie, the other is him not understanding emotions because he's incapable of them.

She's a great actress but would be so cancelled today if twitter found out she's actually Jewish.

Interesting takes, and I never noticed it until now myself. It's stuff like this that makes me miss the message boards at IMDB.

Maybe a minor detail from a deleted scene, but was that not after they reset his read-only switch, allowing him to be actually curious about human stuff?

Very good point, which reinforces the "I know now why you cry" line at the end
