I don't remember quite how it came up in conversation, but my boy and his mother (MY wife) were discussing Santa's favorite treats and my boy questions if Santa can live off only cookies, why can't he? My wife, quick-witted and wonderful, immediately states "His favorite food is actually elves."

"E-elves?" my boy replied, frightened and near tears.

"Yes, elves! He eats the bad ones who are slow at making toys or don't make good ones."

My fearful boy was reluctant to believe this. He protested and began to say it's not true! I was about to intervene because I wasn't going to have the sniveling brat insult MY beautiful wife, his mother. But before I had I chance, my wife quick as ever said, "He does. I can prove it. If we leave an elf out next to a tray of cookies, he'll eat the elf and leave the cookies."

"Noo! He wouldn't! Santa is good!!"

"We'll go elf hunting tomorrow."

And that's how it started. So that weekend me, the boy, the girl, and their mother MY wife, went to the woods and hunted for elves. My wife and I had set up an elaborate ruse the day before that would result in them finding a dead trapped elf treat to serve Santa (really just a meat doll my wife made). They had a blast! My daughter cried on discovery of the elf meatdoll, but we assured her he was a bad one who had escaped and we were helping Santa Claus.

We left the the elf and a plate of homemade cookies (our secret family recipe!!) for Santa. After the kids went to sleep my wife and I got really stoned and ate both the elf and the cookies even though we were only supposed to eat the elf. Whatever. The kids were still convinced. We did leave a note from Santa saying "Elves are my favorite! But I do prefer them alive..." as somewhat of a challenge to our children.

Now it's become a family tradition to go elf hunting each year. They always hope to catch a live elf to serve to Santa, but so far they've only found dead ones.

Anyone else got any unique and fun family traditions!

I know you're a gimmick, but it takes a special mind to think up a story like that.

I love how you keep stating their mother, my wife. It's very wholesome.
