Do you think Disney made the right decision to cancel the show since they wanted to involve sex talk?

33 y/o Hilary Duff dashed the dreams of nostalgia fans after she confirmed that the Lizzie McGuire reboot was cancelled at Disney+ as she wrote a lengthy post on how it's been a challenging year and apologizes to the 16 million fans of the show that made her famous

It first aired on Disney in 2001 and received a movie in 2003 grossing 55 million

While filming began last year for the pilot and a second episode, the show was hampered with creative differences between Disney and the show's director Terri Minisky and Hilary Duff

The studio had tried to find another series director as fans had high expectations of the reboot which would follow the life of a now 30 year old McGuire

Duff and Minisky however wanted a more GROWN UP version rather than the fluff version that the studio wanted for its platform considering it aims kids as it appears Duff wanted the subject of SEX in the show!!. She plead with Disney to move it to Hulu so viewers now could see how she evolved from a teen to an adult living in New York much like the show, Love, Simon

A leaked script revealed the existence of sex with a cheating scandal that Disney could not release this show with a PG rating cause of that

Duff says she would be doing a disservice to the fans if the show revolves around a 30 year old's journey in a PG setting when she's now a woman

But alas, Disney wasn't budging and didnt want to take the risks and cancelled the series.

Do you think Disney made the right decision to can the show cause of SEX talk in the series?

I don't think it's a big deal but at the same time it wasn't in the original, so why are you gonna burn the show to the ground (and ruin a bunch of fan's hype) because you can't talk about sex?

I forgot that 30 year old women are supposed to be virgins.

Most kids are going to end up fucking at some point in their life. I think it's better to demystify and educate at younger ages. They'll probably just think it's a kinda gross thing until they hit puberty, but if they're ever in a situation of molestation or sexual abjse they'll have more awareness of the wrongness of what's happening and more likely to report. And once they hit puberty... you can't stop horny kids from wanting to fuck, but you can give them the tools and education to do so safely.

I disagree with that though, it's not like I didn't read it at all

Most family friendly shows have adults but don't mention sex

Parents on Disney shows don't necessarily imply sexual relations. The genital-less mutant parents on Phil of the Future have established that, at least in the future, the Disney-universe is a sexless utopia.

Damn. I definitely would have watched. Lizzie mcguire was actually a legitimately good show (along with even stevens). Also had a huge crush on her as a pre-teen and she is still smoking hot. Surprisingly thick too hnnngg

As long as it's grounded in science of the non-pseudo and non-biblical varieties, I think it's a topic worth tackling.

Well let's be honest, it was most likely gonna be terrible anyways. The original show was fun and interesting and the majority of reboots/sequels after so long turn out to be bad. Maybe better this way if we never see what happened.

I'm honestly not surprised. Nearly the entire audience for the show would have been nostalgic adult fans of the original, but expecting Disney to produce anything that's not primarily aimed at kids is inevitably going to be disappointing. The successor to That's So Raven really illustrated this: It's generally actually a pretty decent show that captures the spirit of the original in a way that's genuinely entertaining for adults, but it's really bogged down by trying to fit into the generic Disney Channel tween comedy mold (starting with the god-awful theme song) whenever it focuses on the kids instead of the adults (which happens a lot). If Duff/Minisky weren't interested in making the show primarily about Lizzie's kids and their wacky hijinks (which is sounds like they weren't, since they were more interested in developing the original characters), I'm not surprised Disney didn't buy into it.

That said, if they were to independently produce a show about, say, Tizzie McDyre living her adult life, I'm sure they could satisfy the people that were looking for a real successor. There's also a part of me that kind of wants to see them do a frame-for-frame remake of the original, except everyone's 20 years older for no reason and nobody ever acknowledges that, but I recognize that the novelty of that would wear off too fast for it to be worthwhile.
