When they dont really need them?

She mentioned that the money can be better used elsewhere like spending it on vacation beach resorts in Mexico or investing it in the stock market

I kinda get her point not gonna lie.

Thoughts?

I got over collecting stuff a long time ago. But I also would rather buy a nice luxury item I'd have for at least 5 years, rather than go on vacation. I guess if you guys get together fine, you'd have some memories that lasted forever and all that corny dumb shit.

Different strokes, I kinda see both sides. Vacation is nice, but having something that you can physically touch and call "yours" is also nice.

I think the memories are forever, so between a luxury vacation or a luxury collectable, I'd prefer the vacation. But I wouldn't exactly fault anyone for preferring the item.

Some people are materialistic and enjoy dumb shit. Some people like vacationing in exotic places. I have a friend who only goes on vacations with his wife to the different Disney parks across the world. No where else. Weird to me but people have their things. I like going to national parks and I know a bunch of people who wouldnt give a fuck.

Yeah definitely different strokes for diff folks

I may be one of the few people whos thinks that beach resort vacations arent my thing

my type of vacation is going around and exploring the place, not laying in the beach all day relaxing and doing nothing

Why do people like things I don't like? Everyone should just be like me so we never try new things ever!

If you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all.

Actually, Im 100% with you. The beach is boring. Id rather hike and explore. I usually reject invites to the beach if someone's going for more than 2 hours. After the first 2 hours it's just pure boredom

What's the point of a vacation when staying home is safer, more comfortable and cheaper?

I just want to restore this world back to the natural. Bring order to this broken reality. To the way it should have been, all those many years ago.

I collect retro games and I couldn't even tell you.

I used to collect the Jakks World of Nintendo figures but I stop when they ended the line because the Super Mario line of figures that replaced them were sub-par in my opinion.

I have them posed in a glass display case. I think they look nice.

Yup.

And you can resell it.

But there are other temporary things beyond expensive vacations. Theaters, TV, movies (at the theater), concerts, drugs, consumables in video games, hookers, strippers.

i personally feel like collecting things is a waste of time and space if you arent going to sell it at some point.

I feel differently about things that are crafted yourself though as i see those as accomplishments

Thanks. Yeah. I got mine at a second hand store. The figures started to clutter up the bookshelves, which are reserved for games.

For many people I think it's about one of two main things, control/stability or personal success.

For control, that ones pretty obvious. If you're a middle man, don't think you'll ever be your own boss, think you're "whipped", your kids are wild, or even if your life is a wild biker gang ride, then a small collection that is yours and yours alone that no one else touches can give you a feeling of control and stability in your life. Just adding one more figure, coin, or whatever can give you this sense of "look at how it's all still here, all perfect." And be calming.

What I mean about personal success is slightly less easy to understand depending on your upbringing. But if you grew up impoverished or poor and were never allowed to get the games, toys, or whatever small trinkets you wanted while growing up because you were poor then having a small collection of them (or something like them) as an adult can make you feel like you finally have reached financial stability or are on your way to.

Some people just collect bullshit.

This thing is in the room I rent from the elderly couple I stay with.

Only a few things on top and the empty hooch bottles belong to me.

I will dust off and rearrange the exposed stuff at the bottom about once a year.
