store employees are not allowed to physically remove an unruly customer, or prevent them from entering the store. that's why the employees were doing their best to just ignore her, but her entitled ass couldn't accept being denied what she wanted, so she made a scene. the store could have called the police after she arrived, i guess.

I doubt they "got her at the checkout line." From what the manager said, she was told she wasn't allowed to shop there any more the previous day, but she came back any way just to make a scene.

From the conversation it seems like they did get her to put on a mask at the door. The issue is her kid didnt. And in all fairness, Ive seen companies go back and forth on whether children have to wear masks. And like I said, if hes already been walking around the store for 20 minutes then its just self defeating to stop him at the register when theyre leaving.

According to the manager, she had already been told she wasn't allowed to shop there any more before she came in in the first place.

Yeah, it seemed like she was by herself when this was filmed. The manager stated that she had already been made aware that she wasn't allowed to shop there.

It's really weird that people like this think they have a right to shop at private businesses and somehow think it's public property just because they sell groceries.

Why is there a debate on this? A mask is to help prevent the spread of covid19, anyone who can should wear one.

Listen, I can empathize with the lady if she has an autistic son who would refuse to wear a mask, or would pull off the mask during shopping making it difficult for her to enforce during her shopping trip. If she's in a position where she has to have her son with her when she shops (doesn't seem to be the case on the day the video is taken at least), then it may be difficult for her to force her son to wear a mask.

That's why they offered to do her shopping for her, and she refused. If she fought them on that, tried to barge in, and created this hostile environment, it's her fault that she is not being helped. Trader Joe's can refuse service, and yes, it is private property which does not mean that specific manager owns the property.

This lady is wrong and wants to cause a scene. If she can't participate with Trader Joe's rules, they don't have an obligation to serve her.

I get the argument that letting all of that happen on this particular visit was the wrong thing to do because it would be easier for everyone to just take her through checkout, but sometimes that empowers people to think they can do whatever the fuck they want on later visits without real consequence.

We don't know if workers noticed her enter the store or not. We have to assume that during that shopping visit, she was wearing a mask, including as she travelled throughout the store shopping, so hopefully she wasn't spreading virus particles during those moments. It's not clear in the video if workers told her to leave when she came in, or if during her shopping that she wasn't supposed to be there. That isn't mentioned in the video.

The point is, she was told at a prior visit she was not welcome to shop there due to her behavior. The store stuck by that, even though she ended up getting to checkout. Given what we know about how she acted in this video, she likely caused a scene the first time which is why they told her not to come back. She came back anyway, and they stuck to their guns to not serve her due to her behavior, likely because that would create the precedent that she could come back and continue to cause more trouble and not follow rules.

If you are told to leave and that you are not welcome to shop there, don't come back and expect you are welcome to shop there. And don't try to cause a scene as a Karen because you think your rights are infringed upon. There's a reason places have those "right to refuse service to anyone" signs. And it's a private business. She didn't follow the rules, she was told not to come back.

Should the workers have informed her to leave, told her she would not be checked out upon arriving at the cashiers, and called the cops if she did not comply? Probably. We don't know how much of that did or didn't occur.

They want her to leave and never come back. If they just check her out every time she returns because shes already been here for twenty minutes!, then whats even the point of banning her in the first place?
