I liked it but it gave me a major headache with all the different routes. Fun but takes a lot of time when there's a lot of respawning going around.

I never knew that it played kind of like dark souls, though. That was a nice surprise.

Indeed. I remember doing a lot of back tracking and not exactly expecting it. Not saying this is bad but I definitely expected something else.

Also the writing and voice acting is really really fucking good

Coming from someone who never beat a souls game, it doesn't really. It's too easy. The one boss that kills you in 2 hits is the only thing I've died from so far. But I've only put in like 6 hours so far.

I'm sure he was referring to the having to go back to pick up your experience. But also, people are at different levels on the difficulty.

Eh. To me it seemed like a Souls game with a larger budget but way less polish in terms of the gameplay. There wasn't enough 'oomph' to the combat. And the story was forgettable from what I played.

Imo it's a good Star Wars game but not a good game if that makes sense.

I think it's only a good SW game because SW has so many shitty games. Against other AAA games, this game doesn't stand a chance. Trite, boring story and characters. Generic protag. No enemy variety or AI. Extremely simplistic combat. Disgusting amount of backtracking. Pacing issues. Glitchy as all fuck. Seriously, I think out of my <5 deaths, 3 were from glitches

Yeah that's kinda what I was getting at. Old Star Wars games did have a lot of good stuff though. Even the mediocre old Star Wars games were sometimes good in that "6/10 masterpiece" kinda way. but I wouldn't even put this game on that level. It's a good modern Star Wars game but it's also soulless and unmemorable. It kinda just exists to me.

I think there's a sort of x factor in this game where it all comes together as more than the sum of its parts, or it doesn't and each aspect comes up just fine in their own individual evaluations (not sure i said this clearly but whatever). I'm also in the latter camp, unfortunately. I'll give it another chance one day though.

Encouraging exploration but only offering cosmetics as a rewards and rarely a health packs is poor game design. Maybe it would be different if the cosmetics were more varied, but they were all essentially different ship/droid colors and different jacket/poncho colors.

Honestly, I think part of the reason why I like it so much is it reminds me of game design from the PS2 era, with better mechanics. Maybe that's just me.
