- If something is clearly seen/stated in promotional material (trailers, posters, statements from the developer/publisher) then it is no longer considered a spoiler.

Well Sakurai just had a direct where he literally talks about the end of FF7 and says it's 20 years old get over it. He directly talks about Aeris. The Smash stage itself is literally the last moments of FF7 with the lifestream stopping the meteor from hitting the planet.

He also told people to stop watching if they didn't want spoiled.

I do not see this changing the stance of how we moderate FF7 spoilers.

Which currently is just is a slap on the wrist in 95% of the times. =P

That doesn't really change that an advertisement that's a collaboration between Nintendo and Square was made to spoil those moments. It's clearly stated in promo material.

Not to mention the actual stage itself.

It's clearly stated in promo material.
Promo material for an entirely different game that also specifically tells people to stop watching if they don't want spoiled. We will still require spoiler tags when discussing the game and going into details on the plot. It's simply unrealistic to expect a video about a smash bros character to invalidate the requirement to protect users from being spoiled on a game. The spoiler rule is still meant to protect users who do not want to get spoiled, I see no benefit for these users by relaxing major spoilers for a game due to promotional material for a completely unrelated game.

Also while we do generally use 'if it's in a trailer for the game it's not a spoiler', there are some rare cases where that doesn't suddenly change if something is a spoiler or not. The biggest example I have of that is a recent Marvel movie trailer that disclosed a major character death less than a month after the movie came out. We still moderated that because the spoiler rule was intended to protect people, and users were trying to use the 'loophole' of promotional material to specifically spoil it for people who haven't see it yet.

So really, still use spoiler tags. It's super easy and is courteous towards your fellow GameFAQers. =P

I predict TC will accept this perfectly reasonable response and will not continue to argue the semantics of a rule as stated while completely ignoring what the rule was meant to do in spirit.

What part of it though? Because the historic events of a ship hitting an iceberg isn't really the only thing going on in that movie.

Not sure why anything would be different especially with FF7R coming out and a lot of people will be playing it for the first time.

Like just put the word "spoilers" in the topic title if you want to talk about FF7 openly it's not that hard.

Nah it's some bullshit and inconsistent. Not to mention Advent Children has a trailer showing THE THING and its whole story is because of THE THING

Smash Bros. is wild with spoilers from any game, but you still get moderated for unmarked spoilers for those games. This one isn't any different.

To be honest Remake isnt the same game talking about the events of original FF should be fine. Especially with the fact that Areith and sephiroth knowing the events of said timeline and some form of timetravel being a cannonical thing being flat out admited to by SE recently kinda makes the original and AC required material.

That's stupid. A movie's sequel or the next episode continuing the plot doesn't mean it's not spoilers for people who haven't caught up.
It is when they show THE THING in the trailer for the movie because they know everyone freakin knows already

Some guy on CE was angry at the spoilers in the presentation tbh. But I understand, spoiler tags require a lot of brain power to use and can be draining with IQs under 300.

Some people purposely don't watch trailers at all because they want to go in as fresh as possible.

A lot of things seen from trailers and promotional material spoils things.

Heck the trailers and such from the .hack//G.U. games have massive spoilers and they played once the game started up.

It was still considered spoilers on the boards back in the day.
