Where do we have the cutoff for the degree of crime and how much rehabilitation is enough? Because some people...cannot be fixed. Some people just want to watch the world burn. People who do petty crime can be helped, but there are some that just want to hurt people. There are people that kill, rape and rob people just because and they absolutely deserve to rot in jail. Anyone who has sympathy for people like that can't be trusted.

Because there is a lot of injustice in our prison systems. People going to jail for POSESSION of small amounts of whatever drug is a prime example. They are also still people and most of them could do with actual rehab to become productive members of society again.

I already addressed this that possession of small amounts of drugs should be decriminalized. I don't even care to arrest the dealers tbh other than for small sentences.

Not everyone in prison for murder and rape is actually guilty though. There are innocent people in prison. It seems like at least 1 new person is found innocent after years in prison, like every year

Honestly I would love to see people like tc spend a week in prison just so they can have some actual experience what it's actually like.

Because to promote rehabilitation and decrease recidivism, subjecting prisoners to brutal conditions while incarcerated is actually a really shitty idea.

Not to mention that not all prisoners are actually guilty.

Also not to mention that society shouldn't be sadists towards prisoners even assuming that they are all guilty.

All prisoners might not be the same* but it's not like they are going to establish prison reform for only part of the population. They aren't going to have two lunch lines, two rec areas, etc so they can split up the population. If you think that non-violent criminals deserve better treatment, then violent criminals will end up getting it too.

*This is ignoring the fact that all prisoners, regardless of their crime deserve basic human dignity and care from their ward, the state. But I'm doubting an appeal to human decency would work on you.

If we're letting most of them out some day and want to do all we can to keep people out of prison and get them back on the straight and narrow, then we need to give all prisoners rights.
