i sit at work all the time, but of course, no one can tell me not to on overnights. last time someone told me i'm not supposed to sit, i said go find the manager and he can fire me on the spot. good luck filling those weekend nightshift spots, huh?

A person is only as replaceable as a manager is motivated. I know this from personal experience, once I learned managers at one of my old jobs were lazy as fuck and just didn't want to hire anybody. I just progressively tried less and less until one day I just stopped showing up, lol. Got a few empty "that's a good way to get fired" threats that they never followed through on, because I just kept doing the same bullshit and they never did shit to me. Granted, the job was a bite shite. >_>

Unless your job is barebones basic, having to go through verification, training, new uniforms and such while you're down a person just isn't appealing to most managers. That's why they'll tolerate shit if you're useful enough.

yes i'm so sure millions of people are clamoring for my graveyard shift work-holidays, constantly cover other people's shifts minimum wage job. i'm only replaceable once the manager decides he wants to take the chance on re-training someone else and hoping they'll put up with all the same BS.

but the beauty of it is, if they do decide to fire me, ummm ok, lol. i'm ready for a change of pace. and if covid means i can't slip into a new job for a while, i'm ready for those bumped up unemployment benefits

Yeah, and nobody is just going to walk in well trained and knowing what to especially when it's the holiday season. Managers can't afford to let anyone go during that busy period, all the hiring is done months in advance.

Yeah, this is pretty accurate.

Personally, I'd rather go to an "unprofessional" business where the employees look happier than some soulless, strict place that's run by hardasses with miserable workers.

For cashiers I don't see why it is such a problem, especially given the floor is often hard. I work at a home improvement store and by 6 hours I am really uncomfortable.

I'll just say what I said to my last boss: People work better and faster if they're not in pain. He argued the sitting was time they weren't doing anything. I said they can still be doing nothing and standing.

Turns out I was right in the end though as everyone else did their work considerably faster if they didn't have to stand for 6+ hours a day aside from a short lunch.

i don't even get a lunch break, and it's a full 8-hours

I had to get a medical exception to be allowed to sit, and I still wind up standing way too fucking much.

Fuck anyone who calls sitting inherently bad.

As some who used to work Thursday-Monday, overnight 11p-7a, I can tell you its not that easy to get replacement.
